Overcast
Total Time = 1h 19m 34s
Overall Rank = 104/535
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 8/84
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 5:00, packed, had coffee and a bagel and drove down to get my packet before 7 a.m.
Event warmup:

Sat in my car freezing. It was only 51 degrees and didn't warm up until later. I should have warmed up but didn't.
Swim
  • 13m 11s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

Last year my swim time was 17 mins. so this was obviously better but still a challenge. Swimming with that many people in the pool produced waves that splashed me in the face when I tried to breath. I took JP's advice and swam with faster swimmers which was a good move even though they all lapped me.
What would you do differently?:

Work on some speed work to learn to swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

Transition was decent. The transition was quite a ways from the pool so that's what took so long.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 38m 25s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.30 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike. There seemed to be some wind the first half but not much the second half.
What would you do differently?:

I should have drank more water. I froze my water the night before and not much had melted.
Transition 2
  • 00m 58s
Comments:

Felt like this was a quick transition. I changed into my running shoes and grabbed everything else and dealt with hat and watch on the run.
Run
  • 24m 21s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 51s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs really hurt the first 1.5 miles of the run but finally loosened up and felt better. A friend passed me toward the end of the run and I really had to push it to try to stay close.
Post race
Warm down:

After sprinting to the finish line my side ached and I felt like I could get sick. I've never pushed it that hard at the end and it hurt!

Event comments:

This is a fun, low key race. It was the first one I did last year. My time improved by 14 minutes so I'm making progress! I was 19th out of 299 females so I'm pleased with that.
