Sunny
Total Time = 48m 2s
Overall Rank = 6/78
Age Group = 19 & Under
Age Group Rank = 1/78
Pre-race routine:

Up at 0545

Cup of coffee w/ 1 creamer to "dull the edge/acidity", + 1 packet of sugar for glycogen

Breakfast: Packet of Instant Oatmeal (Apples & Cinnamon), Cup of OJ

Mike (NM Outlaw, from Boston, MA) got me fitted with his old Felt racing bike with carbon fiber fork, and it was awesome!
Event warmup:

None really, I was testing Mike's awesome Felt bike, almost missed the start; good thing the race started 5 minutes late.
Swim
  • 07m 28s
  • 400 meters
  • 01m 52s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim, I took my swim coach's advice and held back a little bit so that I could save energy for where I would need it: the bike (especially) and run.
What would you do differently?:

Take note of which side we're supposed to swim to the buoy. I stopped briefly to see where the 2 guys ahead me went.

Remember to mark race number on body w/ black marker

Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Not a chip race, times given for race parts include the preceding transition times.

Had a difficult time getting shoes clipped into pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Take off swim cap before reaching transition mat

Practice running start with bike followed by clipping into bike
Bike
  • 23m 38s
  • 14 kms
  • 35.54 km/hr
Comments:

Nice course, Mike's bike was lighting-fast!
What would you do differently?:

I need to either install my aerobottle, or learn to drink from a normal bottle at race pace - I missed a major opportunity to get well hydrated before the run. I maybe drank 1/4-1/3 of my bottle.

Practice hill-climbing
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Not a chip race, times given for race parts include the preceding transition times.

Considering that I had to tie my shoes, the transition went well.

Switched into running shoes w/out socks for the 1st time
What would you do differently?:

Install and test Yankz, or at least get faster at tying shoes.

Remember to throw on hat/sun visor before leaving for run!
Run
  • 16m 56s
  • 4 kms
  • 04m 14s  min/km
Comments:

Went well, got passed by one person
What would you do differently?:

Practice finishing all workouts with a little "kick" so that I can have the power and energy to finish with a sprint and catch people.
Post race
Warm down:

None really

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Transition into bike shoes

Lack of hydration on bike/going into the run

Event comments:

Relatively small event, but great race! Lots of fun, and it was interesting to see the 60th Anniversary Roswell Alien Festival that was going on in town.
