Pre-race routine:

Get bike pumped up. Put bags where they need to be. Sip gatorade. Wetsuit wiggle
Event warmup:

Swim
  • 1h 34m 59s
  • 4156 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

It might have been best to not wear a rented wetsuit for the first time that day. It gave me a whole set of wetsuit rash.
Transition 1
  • 05m 59s
Comments:

I took it fairly easy. It was going to be a long day. I didn't feel the need to rush.
Bike
  • 8h 48m
  • 118 miles
  • 13.41 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a really tough course. Ugh! I was soooo glad to get off my bike!
What would you do differently?:

Practice more hills.
Transition 2
  • 06m 21s
Comments:

My blood sugar was really really low. I was very disoriented and needed to bring it up before I felt any better.
What would you do differently?:

Fuel better on the bike.
Run
  • 6h 09m 5s
  • 26.22 miles
  • 14m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt better running than biking. I was able to get my blood sugar up and have some fun for awhile before it bagan to really, really hurt.
What would you do differently?:

Do better run training beforehand. Put a good flashlight with good batteries and a reflective jacket in my special needs bag.
Post race
Warm down:

None. It was midnight and my husband wanted to sleep. He had a long day supporting me. I was too wound up and could sleep for more than 48 hours.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I needed more training. I also would have liked to have not crashed my bike messing up my knee a couple of weeks before. I would like to not have broken my finger or caught mono the month before. It was tough.

Event comments:

This RD had a significant challenge in that a forest fire nearby forced a massive change in the course. It made for some glitches in the race that would otherwise have not been there, but I thought that he did very well under the circumstances.
