Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:45, got stuff ready and showered. Drank a Naked Juice protein, ate pretzels, and grapes.
Event warmup:

None
Bike
  • 4h 20m
  • 71 miles
  • 16.38 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a good race and beat my goal of 4:30. I wanted to average better than 14 mph, and did at 13.3 mph. The hills kicked my butt! ABout 3/4 of the course was uphill!
What would you do differently?:

Push harder (if possible) on the hills to keep my average mph up. At one point about half way through my average was 18 mph.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat on the curb and felt like I couldn't walk. I was very achey and sore immediately following the race. I think the hills or new seat caused me to have bad back pain and soreness.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

fatigue from hills and pain. My back, neck, and butt hurt very bad about 45 miles in.

Event comments:

Overall this was a great race for me. Considering how I felt at the end, and the number and distance of hills I finished with a great time.
