Comments:

Awesome race for me. Was a little apprehensive as I've been battling illness and injury for a couple of weeks now. Had my IT flare up after the Ascent and spent all of Wednesday in bed with some sinus stuff and a horrible headache. The first 2 miles I felt fine albeit slow. There was a lot of traffic. Got to the 3 mile mark about 20 seconds slower than predicted. I was shooting for 1:32:00 and was questioning if I would make it, but I got to the turn around in a little over 46 mins and knew I could negative split it for just under my goal. Started feeling really good. Must have been just a mental thing. I managed to turn it up and averaged 06:30 to 06:40 the entire way back. That's normally my tempo pace for a 5 to 6 mile run so I was amazed I was hanging on to it. My return trip took me 43 mins. and some change. I'm absolutely stoked with this result. I was playing through everything in my head before the race, and I forgot that when it comes down to it you just gotta run, and not worry if the course is long, slow, or if the conditions are just right for a PR. So 3rd in my age group and 18th overall. Best result all year for me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked it out and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Head games got the better of me at the start, but managed to turn it around.

Event comments:
