Pre-race routine:

Got to the race to get marked and had to wait another 2 hours until my heat started. Ate my bagel and banana and tried not to get too nervous.

Saw Laura (misscullen) getting her wetsuit on and went over to say hi and wish her luck.
Event warmup:

Not much. Walked around, did a really short swim to check wetsuit and goggles.
Swim
  • 29m 20s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Was a pretty good swim for me since I'm not a swimmer! Lap 1 went well, good navigation for the most part and a few drafts for a while. Lap 2 I was leading a small group of slow swimmers and there was nobody in front of me for a while so it was good clean swimming! Very good navigation and breathing on lap 2.
What would you do differently?:

Learn to swim faster!
Transition 1
  • 01m 56s
Comments:

Long-ish run into T1. Easy to find my bike since most others were already gone!! Still gotta learn to put my shoes on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Shoes on bike.
Bike
  • 1h 13m 20s
  • 40 kms
  • 32.73 km/hr
Comments:

Hadn't been doing nearly enough cycling lately and especially enough hills - it showed big time! I was hoping for just over an hour ride - obviously didn't happen. I just wanted to have a good time though. Found it hard to keep pushing for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

Train better.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

Not a bad T2 considering my feet were soaking and my shoes were dry with no powder.
What would you do differently?:

Powder shoes, learn to take my feet out of my cycle shoes on the bike.
Run
  • 40m 49s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 05s  min/km
Comments:

Started out rough - my legs/feet were cold from the bike and my achilles was hurting and I've never had that before. Stopped for a couple seconds to work it out and ran it off pretty quick. Picked up the pace and there were a lot of people out there cheering which helped a lot. Was hoping for a sub-40 minute run which by my watch I was going to come pretty close to - a little dissapointed that I didn't.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster - I know I can!
Post race
Warm down:

Stretching on the grass and eating. Saw racinmason in finish area and went over to say hi.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training lately and the weather played a bit of a factor as well.

Event comments:

Very good race with a lot of really good people racing and GREAT volunteers and fans!! I really enjoyed the whole race and am hopefully going to be back in '08.
