Run
Comments: This race was a lot of fun. I didn't train for it at all, and did a couple hard strength sessions and other workouts this week - so I wasn't expecting my best. I mainly just did this because it was my dad's first half-mary. He eneded up doing GREAT which made the day that much more fun. When the gun went off, he sprinted off ahead of me and because I knew I needed to pace myself, I held back. It was tough going at it alone, but that what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger! :) I remember mile 8 to 12 just being TOUGH. Those are always the "burn" miles to me. Probably slowed up in the last 4 or 5 miles due to lack of nutrition. Even though the weather was PERFECT - never hot, never too cool, because my intensity increased, I just had a hard time getting any calories in. I think I drank about 15 oz GE and had a couple sips of water through it all. I'm pretty happy with my time. I've come a long way this summer since my ankle injury. I finished about 30 seconds after my dad. His time was really impressive, and I'm so happy I could do this with him! What would you do differently?: Take in more than 80 calories...? Post race
Warm down: Hung out with my dad at the party, changed into warmer clothes and drank some water. Good fun. Event comments: Great race - Although there wasn't a whole lot of crowd support (due to the location on the naval base), the volunteers were AWESOME! Nutrition stops were well dispersed and they even had extra people in golf-type cars riding up and down the course giving out extra gu and bananas and water. The enthusiam of the volunteers made it so much more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this race! Last updated: 2007-09-17 12:00 AM
