Swim
Comments: The swim, as last time, keeps catching me by surprise as I try to stay relaxed among the swimmers all clawing for placement and maneuvering on top of each other - arms and legs flailing. Hard to get in good rhythm, and kep breathing on right side instead of alternating as done in the pool. Didnt really get comfortable until midway to three quarters of the way through where I could breathe normally and most of the pack had split up. Overall, happy with my time, much faster than I would have thought it was going to be. What would you do differently?: Try to remember it is always a cluster of madness in the beginning and not to lose cool and to keep relaxed. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition, a little slow What would you do differently?: Maybe run/ride without socks or shirt, quick tie laces, that's it. Bike
Comments: good bike segment for me; kept good pace for my 2nd race. Lots of faster bikers out there, but kept up with the pack for the most part. Apparently the layout was longer for 1 loop of 10 mi than the original 2x 5 mile loops as they had a larger crowd than anticipated. What would you do differently?: Try to keep the speed up a little more - was doing around 19-20 which gave me an avg of 18.3 with the turns etc. Could probably comfortably get the avg to 19-19.5 without any harm to the run. Transition 2
Comments: Couldnt have gone any smoother as I was already wearing my running shoes on the bike - bike pedal-less at the moment. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Good run for my skill level at this point. Had a sub-10 min mi pace. Overcast made it cooler than it could have been so added to making the run more comfortable. Still was a hard run for me, but able to run at an even pace for the entire course. What would you do differently?: Continue to work on my running ability and endourance. Would be nice to be able to run the course in a sub-9 min pace. Running seems to be the weakest of the three areas for me at this time. Post race
Warm down: Water. Then found the Panera bread breakfast and helped myself to some coffee and a bagel. Then, relaxed a bit before packing up to head home. Specific warm-down - just walking around What limited your ability to perform faster: Skill level. I felt great for the race. Just need to improve my running ability/speed and my transitioning. From there, continue with training - strength and endourance to bring improvements to bike and swim Event comments: Good organization. Maybe could have had some portable bathrooms more available for 500 people instead of the two bathroom stalls. Last updated: 2007-09-28 12:00 AM

Up at 4:15am, shower, oatmeal, then out the door. 1/2 hour drive to the race. Got there around 5:15. Hardly anyone there yet. Able to set up my transition area and then comfortably walk around and try to relax. Picked up my packet and t-shirt. Got a litle irritated because the person next to me at the bike rack kept putting her equipment all over mine on my little transition towel - didn't seem to phase her...a little race ettiquite please.
Walked the 1/4 mi to the swim start and then in the water for a short warm-up swim - 50m at most. Glad I went in because the water, although 80, was still surprisingly cold, and the water color was brown with a foot of visibility at most.
