Run
Comments: Around mile 3, I just kind of zoned out and the miles flew by. I was very surprised at each split to see a pace much faster than I expected.I was sub-16 until mile 9!! I had been expecting a water station at mile 8 and took a gel just before . . . unfortunately, there was no more water for 3 miles! The heat took a little bit of a toll on me. What would you do differently?: if I had known how long I'd go without water, I'd have helped myself to someone's garden hose. I was thinking about doing this at one house, then I saw the bumper sticker on their truck: "You mess with me, you mess with the whole trailer park" and got scared off. Post race
Warm down: Found some banannas, waited for the the shuttle back to the hotel, then popped into the jacuzzi (which was filled with runners!), then the pool. Made my checkout time with 2 min to spare! What limited your ability to perform faster: No water after the the turn-around for 3 miles. Event comments: I have a pet peeve about races not delivering what they've promised in terms of water & nutrition. They took down the aid stations way too early and it really affected mine (and several others') races. If they had said they had a pace requirement, I'd have carried a water bottle. (And yes, I actually wrote the race director to ASK!) Last updated: 2007-11-01 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 . . . yikes! My last real run was on October 7th, and I had some serious doubts about today. I was afraid I'd end up walking most of the race. I tried to bargain with myself that if I kept running for the first half, I would be happy with that and not beat myself up over whatever happened after that.
