Set up transition area; ate english muffin and banana about 2 hrs before start and 1/2 a power bar 30 mins before start along with plenty of water

Horrible, horrible, horrible swim. Just couldn't get into a routine; ended up breast and side stroking a lot of the course

Need to train a great deal more in the surf.

Pretty pleased with the bike leg overall. Made up for the horrible swim leg.
What would you do differently?:

Push just a little bit more next time. I had legs left. 22 fewer seconds would have moved me up 2 positions in the age group.

Again, happy with transition. Need to work on sock thing though. Was definitely the slow up.
What would you do differently?:

Try training and running this short distance without socks so that next race I can try and go without.

Legs did feel like bricks coming off the bike. Took about the first mile almost to loosen up and get into stride but the same appeared to be the case with many others. Happy with the run.

Warm down:

Walked and stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Issues with the swim in the surf. A definite training shortfall.

Event comments:

Not bad for my second triathlon. Enjoyed the race and course, just need to improve my surf swim.

Course: Flat, flat, flat and generally pretty fast. Had to make one u-turn and had one major intersection to turn through. Good signage and volunteer presence. Most road surfaces were pretty good. Two sections were a bit rough - North Road and the road around the Puuloa Rifle Range.

Course: Again, very flat and fast. Combination asphalt with a short grass segment. Essentially an out an back type course except that there is about a 1/2 mile difference between start and finish. Nice run.
