Total Time = 1h 17m 35s
Overall Rank = 38/165
Age Group = 30 - 39
Age Group Rank = 6/27
Pre-race routine:

Dropped off bike at 6:30 to get spot
Setup transition at 7:15
Talked with friends most of morning
Event warmup:

Went for 15 minute bike ride at 8:00
Swim
  • 10m 39s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Led the way the whole swim, had to push it a bit to keep the guys behind from drafting the whole way. Wife says I put about a 1/4 length distance on them.

Time was also added to dry off and put on long sleeved shirt, so overall swim was really good.
What would you do differently?:

Not lead out. I have done this two of the four times doing this race and both times felt a lot of pressure from behind and tend to push it a bit more than I want to.

Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

started to pedal with right foot before getting left foot on the shoe and soe got stuck between ground and pedal. Then once on the bike it took forever to get foot all the way into shoes due to gloves. I haven't been as good at getting feet into shoes as last year and then add in that I had gloves on for this race and I couldn't get the heels in.
What would you do differently?:

Need to practice getting feet in shoes again and if wearing gloves put shoes on in transition.
Bike
  • 40m 43s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

Couldn't get HR down. Saw 159 briefly, but stayed around 166 for much of the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Work on getting into shoes. Increase power to fight wind and hills
Transition 2
  • 00m 31s
Comments:

Went really well. Really liked transition position
What would you do differently?:

Missed the rack once with the bike. Need to hit it on the first try.
Run
  • 24m 31s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Still weakest area. Need to work on some speed here.I pushed hard, wanted to slow down a number of times, but pushed through it.

My hip felt good throughout. Tender later, but not bad.

No water left at water stop. Probably didn't need it, but mentally may have helped.
What would you do differently?:

Just need to get faster. Went as hard as body would let me go.
Post race
Warm down:

Sucking in as much oxygen as possible

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind was tough, but everybody had to fight it. My personal limiter is my run.

Event comments:

Only problem I have encountered in the four years doing this race is that the water ran out on the run this year. With the cold weather it wasn't a huge deal, but more of a mental hurdle for me.
