Run
Comments: Really nice, easy run. The sun came out right at the start which kept us all warm until the lake. The last mile leading to the lake was insane...my body wanted to stop and turn around but I kept on plugging away. Once I got to the water, I took off my polar fleece shirt and my shoes, and proceeded to follow everyone into the water. It was a ramp about ten meters down, then a dunk in, and then back up the other side of the ramp. Surprisingly, it didn't feel as cold or shocking as I was expecting. It wasn't until I had finished and wandered around for a few minutes that I actually started feeling chilled so I changed into warm clothes in my car. If there hadn't been the water portion, I would have PR'd the 5k at around 26 minutes (best guess). What would you do differently?: Pee before the start. I had to go, but didn't and felt that the whole way. And no, I didn't go in the water!! :) I'd also push myself a little harder, although I seem to say that after every race. Post race
Warm down: Changed into wool and fleece in the car, drank coffee and then a beer! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nerves! That water made me really nervous. Event comments: I'd definitely do this race again! It was so fun to see all the people I have met along this triathlon training adventure last year. Lynne, Liz, Rachel, the other Leslie and more. UPDATE--Here are some photos from Lynne's blog....yes, I did actually go in the water, that is me looking all wet from the back! I placed third in Athena, woo woo! 90 out of 269 women! Got to the race early and scored a great parking spot. Met up with my friend Jennie, then proceeded to run into a ton of people I know, mostly from triathlons. It was fun! Got my number and kept on contemplating that darn jump into the lake. It looked coooooold!
Jennie and I ran a mile to warm up, and I did some stretching. Mostly I jabbered at friends and probably acted way too hammy for Lynne's husband's camera!
