Age Group Rank = 2/12
Pre-race routine:

Ate normal breakfest, a bowl of cereal and a english muffin with peanut butter and jelly. Race didn't start until 11 AM so had plenty of time between breakfest and start.
Event warmup:

Rode bike about 1.5 miles in park, ran about a mile. Didn't feel all that great in the warmup which had be a little concerned for my race performance.
Run
  • 16m 39s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Course was very wet, muddy and thru the woods on a cross country trail. It was a challenge to keep your footing. Probably went out too fast, couldn't get into a good breathing rythm. Started feeling better about 2 miles into the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not go out as fast, work up to race speed. But run was so short, you almost had to go out fast or get left behind.

Comments:

This was only my second race on my new tri bike, so still don't feel real comfortable with it yet. Need to stay in aero position more, even going uphill.
What would you do differently?:

Stay in aero position throughout the ride, even while climbing. Try to spin up hills more and not mash a big gear.
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Estimated. Transistions weren't timed but included in 2nd run time
Run
  • 17m 56s
  • 2.2 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Pretty much ran by myself until the final mile where I got close to the runner in front of me. Tried to catch him at the line, but came up a little short. Overall, not bad considering the conditions.
Post race
Warm down:

Got some water, and bagels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Probably went out to fast in during the initial run which hurt the rest of the way. Have a tendancy to do that and that seems to hurt my performance.

Event comments:

Excellent small local race. Was well organized, would have been nice if it was chipped time to give true transition times. But overall enjoyed the race.

Course: Cross country course, not especially hilly but was very muddy due to rain the day before the race. A few big puddles that had to be jumped and some areas with poor footing. It was hard to go all out without the fear of going down.

My polar S710 measured the distance at 14.8 miles and it is pretty accurate. Subracted 1:30 from my published bike time for transistion.
Wind: Little
Course: No big climbs, but a lot of rolling hills that didn't allow you to get into a good cruising rythm. 2 Lap course mostly country roads and very little traffic.
