Pre-race routine:

Biked to Hawk Island from house so that Jenn could come later with kids. About three mile warm up.
Event warmup:

Got in water about 7:45 with scheduled 8:00 start. Did quick swim to check things out and water was cool but not to bad. The race didn't start until about 8:20 because the swim course was long and they had to bring the buoys in. Froze my tail off while waiting on shore! Didn't use a wetsuit but probably should have.
Swim
  • 06m 59s
  • 437 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt horrible on the swim. Never could get into a rythym. Popping my head out of the water every couple of strokes and several times just kicked in place for a second or two to regain my composure. John and Mike said that I was about 20th coming out of the water.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

No wetsuit so T1 was pretty quick. Need to get some tri shoes and wouldn't have to worry about putting shoes on in transition. When you cross the bike mount line you have to make an immediate left turn so it was hard to run and jump on the bike. Clipped in pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 28m 4s
  • 9.94 miles
  • 21.25 mile/hr
Comments:

Picked off some people on the bike. John and Mike said that I was about 10th coming off the bike. Felt pretty good.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Had a little difficulty getting my running belt on. Should have originally just grabbed it and put it on while running through the transition. Tried putting it on while standing there and only wasted time doing this.
Run
  • 18m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 05m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

Didn't take any water during run. Felt good. Wish I would have known splits to see how consistent miles were.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. I want to break 18 for a tri
Post race
Warm down:

Played with Rory.

Event comments:

Excellent volunteers. People on course, including police officers, were very supportive and encouraging. Little snafu with the swim buoys at start but not that big of a deal.
