Event warmup:

walk 10 minutes, stretch, walk 5 minutes; were in a hurry - blew horn before I could swim a lap.
Swim
  • 16m 13s
  • 900 yards
  • 01m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

Fastest I've swam. Started swimming this summer. Beat my estimated time by 4 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Tie my shorts tighter. They were anxious to start and because I was telling my volunteer how I wanted him to show me my lap count, I didn't even get one warm-up lap. My shorts about came off!
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

lost my head - went 10 steps before I remembered I forgot my shirt - had to run back past those I had a lead on
What would you do differently?:

make sure I grab my shirt!
Bike
  • 28m 30s
  • 10 miles
  • 21.05 mile/hr
Comments:

My bike was all set up, but wouldn't turn on when I got to it - I kept peddaling, asking for help, but it wouldn't work - had to switch to a bike that wasn't ready to go. Cost me about 30 seconds, which I accounted for in my total time. I was chasing the leader in my heat - he ended up placing third in men. Pushed myself almost as hard as I could go; legs were fatigued; mental battle to keep up pace; hardest I've ever ridden
What would you do differently?:

train harder!
Transition 2
  • 00m 11s
Comments:

took first steps slow - good thing. my legs were jello. only a 50 foot transition to the track. Didn't have to change anything.
Run
  • 33m 59s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

legs were shot the first lap. got a sideache pretty quickly - had it for most of the run. Cost my 30 seconds on my mile pace. extending my exhale helped some. Just couldn't push it. Had a good final kick - 1:20 lap. Mile 1 - 8:28, Mile 2 - 8:23, Mile 3 - 8:56, Mile 4 - 8:12
What would you do differently?:

research why I got a sideache and avoid that. research how to get rid of it. Train harder
Post race
Warm down:

Walked 2 laps

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I had a surgery exactly one month ago that limited my ability to train - couldn't swim for 2 weeks. Didn't know I could do the triathlon until 2.5 weeks before - wasn't in race shape. Was sick last week and couldn't train. Only 2 days of training in week before race.

Event comments:

This was my first tri. It was a great experience. The race organizers were great - very friendly, organized, and helpful. The racers and volunteers were all very supportive and friendly. I'm really glad I did it and I'm sold on triathlons.
