Pre-race routine:

Got there at about 7:00am, registered, had oatmeal, naped as much as my 3YO would let me,stretch a bit, then pep talked to calm my co-relay teammates a bit.
Event warmup:

Nap, stretch, YAWN!! :) What else do you do before a 400m swim?
Swim
  • 08m 32s

Comments:

The first few hundred were pretty uneventful, passed a few people. Turning just before the last 100yd was a bit congested. There were about 6 of us jammed up and everyone wanted everyone else to go. Then I went (not wanting to get stuck in traffic), wound up pushing my way thru a bit but over came.
The last 50m I was trying to keep some guy on my right at bay, while slowing cathing up to yet another directly ahead.
The last 25m I gave all I had left but the guy ahead picked up too, then fell to a back stroke on the last 10-ish meters. Wound up exiting the pool at the same time. Fun, just glad no one passed me (wouldn't have minded but nice to have it this way). :)
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition went real smooth. Wife got a bit nervouse and was not ready with her helmet on as she said she would. I had to tell her twice, funny wathing her wonder why I was telling her "your helmet", as I removed the timing chip. She finally got it after I grabbed her ankle to strap the timing chip on her. Really funny, we were both giggling.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I love the fact that I finally got my wife to do an event (something she always wanted to do but terrified to). I did the relay thing just to see my wife and her cousin finally do what they'd wanted to for such a long time.

Event comments:

This was my 3rd year doing this event but my first time doing a relay of any kind. The fact my wife and her cousin can't wait to do this event next year is the best thing I could have heard. We finished with a big smile, they now have a goal to go for some hardware for next year. Guess I better get my act together on swimming to help give them that opportunity.
Even better, there is an very good change they will convince other memebers of the family to do a relay next year as well. Other members are anxious about it now.
And the diseas keeps on spreading. :)
