Pre-race routine:

My husband and I are doing this race and it is our first tri!!
Alarm went off at 5am and I got up, went downstairs and started the coffee. While Mike was in the shower, I fixed us oatmeal with brown sugar, craisins, and an egg. We had that and a banana. I drank a couple of glasses of H2O also. Showered, dressed, and we're ready!
Night before, we packed our bags, got our drinks ready and put in the fridge, set out our clothes. That made the morning much easier!
Event warmup:

None. The swim was in a pool and was a staggered start meaning one person started q 5 secs. I knew that a warm-up for me would be useless since I was going to start at the back of the bus!
Swim
  • 11m 58s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

The race started at 9am, however, I didn't enter the pool until 10:10am. That part kind of stinked, but that meant no congestion in the pool. I know that my swim is weak and that I am slow. But I did it, didn't rest on the wall- I chugged along and did the swim! With where I am in my progress, I was very happy with my performance!
What would you do differently?:

I wouldn't have changed anything in the swim during the race. My overall swim needs to improve. This summer I may look into taking swim lessons at Purdue.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Ok- so I didn't do the whole run with bike with my shoes already clipped on my pedals thing. That really slowed me down because I sounded like a horse, "clippity clop clippity clop".
What would you do differently?:

I could have moved faster. At the time, I thought I was ok.. but 4+ minutes!! Come on!!
Bike
  • 37m 34s
  • 10 miles
  • 15.97 mile/hr
Comments:

I felt good on the bike. At first, I thought my legs/thighs were going to freeze! I warmed up though and just rode. I practiced aero, I payed attention to all of the rules. I passed about 15-20 people. I was passed twice. It was all good!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, just speed up my transition- getting on and off of the bike quickly.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I felt like this transition was so fast!! I even started running while putting on my race belt!
They didn't have my T2 time split out from my run time.. so my run time below includes my T2 time. I would guess my T2 time to be about 1-1:30.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting off of the bike more smoothly.
Run
  • 28m 41s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

This is where I really excelled. I ran my best time ever for a 5K! I ran hard and fast for me! I passed maybe 12 or so people and was not passed once. One lady even commented that I "had too much energy for this portion of the race". :)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was my first tri so I chalked it all up to learning!

Event comments:

I have participated in many running events in my life. This by far was the most fun that I have ever had at a sporting event. I loved every second of it. I loved the fact that my husband was there participating and cheering me on. I loved the fact that our friends were there cheering us on. I loved all of it! Look out tri world!! Here I am!! :)
