Total Time = 2h 44m 22s
Overall Rank = 80/125
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

Brought oatmeal with me but unknowingly made it with 2% milk and couldn't eat it... so had a protein bar and a banana plus some watered down gatorade.

Event warmup:

Spent time doing my dynamic stretches and about a 10 min swim warm up.
Swim
  • 26m 50s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim. Felt confident and easily found a rhythm. Our wave was female 15 - 39 and boy did they go out fast. I kept it nice and even and was soon catching up with the men's wave ahead of us.

Really long run to T1 - up the beach, through a parking lot, across a 4 lane road and into another parking lot!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

a so - so transition... I didn't feel the need to rush.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting my wetsuit off!
Bike
  • 1h 21m 6s
  • 40 kms
  • 29.59 km/hr
Comments:

Great bike... again felt very confident. Was only passed by 1 female. HR moniter was a great tool for me. Knew when I needed to pick it up.
At one point a trio of pelicans were flying in a formation above me... it was awesome!
What would you do differently?:

Drink more and go harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Run
  • 56m 27s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 38s  min/km
Comments:

Ick, ick, ick. And herein lies my problem. It was hot and humid and I forget how warm you really get on the bike. Felt quite nauseaus. Did a lot of run/walking. Legs felt great, no jelly legs, just went right to it. But I was too hot and made the mistake of giving my hat and glasses to Adam after a mile in.
Had to stop and pee too... that was annoying.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more on the bike and don't water my gatorade down so much.
No ice on the course, but should have had some in my hat. It wasn't that hot for Florida standards, but hot coming from here.
Post race
Warm down:

Tried to get cooled off! Walked 200 m to the hotel and showered and changed.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat and humidity

Event comments:

Good race, this was the first one and race management did well. There was some confusion that a pre race meeting might have cleared up, but overall it was well run.
Plus, ya gotta love a race that has it's post race party on the beach with jambalaya and beer!
PB of 7 min for me... I'll take it!
