Total Time = 5h 48m 13s
Overall Rank = 663/963
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 106/128
Pre-race routine:

Carry my heavy bag of gear 1200m to the transition area from the cabin.
Event warmup:

Simple stretching and general socializing.
Strange thing happened, was my mind was telling my body you should be shaking with nerves but I felt perfectly calm throughout the race.
Swim
  • 40m 36s
  • 1900 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

More or less on target for swim, I went a little wide at the first buoy, it was a little hard to navigate properly on the way out,I found myself swimming an extra 100m or so.

GOAL TIME = 40 MINS - 2.11 MINS/100M
What would you do differently?:

I am happy with this performance, spot on my target time!
Transition 1
  • 03m 9s
Comments:

I couldn't get the damn suit off! This is only the 2nd time I have raced with it. I forgot you need to slip your thumb in to get it off and over your wrist.
What would you do differently?:

Practice getting my suit off.
Bike
  • 2h 43m 9s
  • 90.1 kms
  • 33.13 km/hr
Comments:

I went out way too hard, 1st lap took me just over 48 mins and 51 mins for the 2nd, I suffered hard on the last lap. I still managed to beat my goal time though.

GOAL TIME = 2.45.00 - 32.76 KM/HR
What would you do differently?:

Steady pace and try to negative split the 2nd half if I still have it in the tank.
Transition 2
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

I was busting for a piss for roughly the last 40km, and then I had to wait in line!
What would you do differently?:

When you gotta go, you gotta go!
Run
  • 2h 18m 12s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 06m 33s  min/km
Comments:

I suffered badly, I couldn't run fast at all.
I did however manage to find my legs on the last lap, but not much.

GOAL TIME = 1.55.00 - 5.45 MIN/KM
What would you do differently?:

I am certainly going to work on my run training over the winter.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk 1200m back to the cabin, have a shower and go to sleep.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to work on endurance, longer rides and longer runs.

Event comments:

The atmosphere is addictive, people lining the streets in support cheering you on. I loved the event, yes I could have gone faster, but I finished it and you never know, maybe I might even give the Ironman a go!
