Pre-race routine:

I really hate being out of town for races. Being in a hotel the night before stresses me out. I had no way of making my oatmeal and had forgotten to bring my protein powder. I ended up using the luke-warm tap water to make some crunchy oatmeal and then scarfed 3 Kashi bars as I packed everything up. (this makes Mistake #1.) Suz and I got down to the transition, set everything up and hit the port-a-potties. Eww. the smell of human feces and Kashi at 6am makes me kind of sick.
Event warmup:

Warmup... what the heck is that??? My warmup was just trying to get that rubberband of a wetsuit on. Tt even made me break a sweat. That counts, right??
Swim
  • 57m 25s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 43s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

For starters? I'd practice in my wetsuit. Perhaps I will even take my scissors to that collar. That thing was way too freaking tight.

BAD BAD BAD.. all around.
Transition 1
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

WTF was I doing for 3 minutes??? Wish I could answer that one!
What would you do differently?:

Uhh make it happen a little faster??
Bike
  • 3h 10m
  • 56 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride... I think probably avgd more like 18pmh if you exclude my extremely graceful mount and dismount. Love my Cervelo. I owe it all to him (Rod.)
What would you do differently?:

Pedal faster and drink more. This is the point at which I was beginning to dehydrate. you'll hear more about this lata...
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Who knows.. it took forever. I was tired and dizzy and losing it mentally.
Run
  • 3h 01m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Slowest half mary todate. I was dying. Do the lack of hydration, I had the shakes and felt out of it. I thought I would pass out before i made it to the finish line, but that wasn't going to stop me.
What would you do differently?:

HYDRATE.
Post race
Warm down:

no warmdown... oh wait my warmdown was more like an IV in the med tent with some saline. 2 liters later and I was feeling much much better.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration and nutrition.

Event comments:

After collapsing at the finish line and waking up in the med tent with the IV, i've learned hydration and nutrition are key. I also need to avoid spraining my shoulders and food poisoning the week before the race. All things considered, i'm proud to have even finished. that day did not work in my favor, but I refuse to let that get me down. Nobody will stop me from getting my medal.

Course: Well, I'd say that having a panic attack and then throwing up in the water is not really a great start to a race. I could tell as soon as I got in the water that this wasn't going to be my day. I just kept telling myself, "relax and swim..." I relaxed alright... so much that the swim took much longer than it should have. i've got to do something with my wetsuit. The collar really made me stress out.
