Swim
  • 36m 23s
  • 1900 meters
  • 01m 55s / 100 meters
Comments:

Got beat up a bit heading out, then found some good feet to draft off for a while, ended up a fair way left of the first bouy, got around it okand then got hit a fair bit at the next bouy, fairly uneventful swim back in.

Enjoyed the swim, kept a good even pace, pushed as much as i could without loosing form or feeling sore in my arms. conditions were perfect and took 2minutes of last years time and was right on my goal time time.
What would you do differently?:

Need to do more work on my swim, i would love to get this time down to about 31-32 minutes. Will have to find a good squad to swim with.
Transition 1
  • 03m 12s
Comments:

Was a long way from the swim to transition but everything went ok.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 2h 31m 46s
  • 90.1 kms
  • 35.62 km/hr
Comments:

Rode hard today, had planned to do each lap in 49 mins and i hit that target for lap 1 and 2, but the wind had picked up on the way back in for lap 3 and that slowed me a little on the last lap. That last lap was a hard slog back in to transition, was pushing about as hard as i could at that stage. I felt some real hunger pains on this lap, all i could think about was food, i think i stuffed up my nutrution a bit!

Enjoyed the ride, kept a good heart rate and cadance the whole time, kept the concentration up and was really happy with the time...(3mins off my goal but was sure i could peg that back on the run).
What would you do differently?:

Just keep training. work harder on the nutrition.
Transition 2
  • 02m 39s
Comments:

Transition came up on me quick after he turnaround and i only had time to get one foot out of my shoe, so had a one shoe on one off run to rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Sloppy transition really, have done better that this.
Run
  • 2h 05m 26s
  • 21.1 kms
  • 05m 56s  min/km
Comments:

Overall to the end of the ride i was right on track to beat my 5hrs, all i had to do was a few kms at 4:40ish and then maintain 5minks to the end...

Hit 4:40, 4:45, 4:45 for the first 3 kms, things were looking good...i felt tiered coming out of transition and new it would be a tuff run, but could see that i was going to come very close to hitting my goal, i was excited!

Then, in about the 4th km i felt a sharp pain in my right calf...(have been to physio and now know it was a tare), i managed to run through the first lap, but by the end of the lap i was struggling to keep to 6min kms and then on the second lap the pain was kreeping up my leg, my knee and outer thigh were in agony, and i ended up walking a fair bit of the second lap.

By the third lap my i was running as much as i could and walking when the pain was too much (trying to only walk the aid stations), ended up well outside my planned time but was glad just to finnish.
What would you do differently?:

I think my nutrition on the bike let me down a bit for the run, i had about 750ml of "shots" and 3 gells on the ride and one gell at the start of the run...will have to check that out for next time.
Post race
Warm down:

todays warm down was eating...i was starving after the race, sat in the shade and ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Overall it was a good a result, had i not picked up that injury i would have been very close to beating the 5hr mark...next year...

Event comments:

Excelent event, great atmosphere.
