Overall Rank = 489/694
Age Group = 40-44 Female
Age Group Rank = 17/35
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30 a.m., ate oatmeal with apples and pecans, drank coffee and some water. Packed up and drove to event.
Event warmup:

Stretched
Swim
  • 11m 32s
  • 600 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I swam this with no training. Started near the front of the pack since I knew I would swim faster than most and didn't want to keep bumping into hands, feet, elbows as I swam past. Started feeling tight in the shoulders at around 300 yards. I tried to relax my breathing and extend my reach so that I could pull efficiently as possible. Periodically swam breast stroke to look around and see where I was.Drank lots of lake water!
What would you do differently?:

Train more.
Transition 1
  • 03m 54s
Comments:

long distance between exiting the pool to the transition area. lots of people ran; i walked. I was tired. I could definitely improve in this area.
What would you do differently?:

run to the transition area.
Bike
  • 28m 6s
  • 11 miles
  • 23.49 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride, considering I did very little/inconsistent training. It was a bit hard for me to breathe, but tried to relax and focus on evenly spinning my pedals.
What would you do differently?:

Train more so that I could average 20+ mph.
Transition 2
  • 01m 58s
Comments:

I guess I could improve time here too.
What would you do differently?:

i don't know.
Run
  • 33m 20s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Awful! Not nearly enough training. Stopped 5 times. At the 1.5 mile, I started to run 5 min. and walk 1 min. My slow speed is killing my ability to finish higher.
What would you do differently?:

Must focus more training on running.
Post race
Warm down:

What warm down???? Walking to find gatorade and water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and slow run.

Event comments:

Very well organized race and well-thought out courses. All of the volunteers were helpful. Each course was well marked and easy to track. I'll be back next year!
