Run
Comments: This is listed as “an introduction to trail running” The start of the run was on the grass and was all downhill. After a short climb was a water station that you eventually double back on and pass on the way back to transition. The run went well and I felt good about by pace considering some of the hills and fairly steep sections of the course. What would you do differently?: Go out a little faster Transition 1
Comments: I decided to put my bike shoes on in transition as apposed to leaving them on the bike and I don’t think it hurt me to bad. Unfortunately, my sunglasses fell of my bike as I was running out of transition and I stopped to pick them up. What would you do differently?: Run with the sunglasses on or make sure they are more secure on the bike. Bike
Comments: Had a flask of gel on the bike and two water bottles (one aero). Decided to eat about half the gel and drink one bottle on each bike and that plan worked pretty well. The hills are just rollers nothing too bad there was one medium climb on the south part of the course that I used an out of the saddle effort to get over but nothing unmanageable by any means. What would you do differently?: Train more on my bike. Transition 2
Comments: Basic transition with no issues. I left my shoes on the bike, lets see how that works in T3. Run
Comments: My legs were really angry with me at this part of the race. I told them it will be alright and I will be back on the bike soon enough. (I didn’t mention that there was going to be another run …) What would you do differently?: I ran well for this part of the race. Transition 3
Comments: T3 time was much faster that T1 but my bike time suffered. After passing the mount line and getting on my bike my left shoe hit the ground and ejected off the clip. I had to stop, get off the bike and walk back to get my shoe. That definitely chewed up some time. What would you do differently?: practice leaving the shoes on teh bike. Bike
Comments: Finished off my gel and water while on the bike. I was really pushing to make up for having to stop and deal with my shoe and I actually had a negative split! That’s a plus for me. On the start of the bike I saw a local triathlete on the side of the rode playing with a tire. His Zipp went flat and he had to run back to transition to grab his spare bike. Who would have thought of bringing a spare bike to the race? He was winning his AG until the flat but he still managed to finish the race. That is some dedication. What would you do differently?: Good ride for me, more training will make me faster. Transition 4
Comments: I had a good transition other than a temporary brain melt where I forgot where the exit to transition for the run was located. Fortunately, one of the volunteers was on the ball and pointed me in the right direction, and even gave me some water. What would you do differently?: Nada Run
Comments: This is my first F1 race and I had no idea what the third run would be like. Actually my legs felt pretty good. In fact, not a single person passed me during the last run and I managed to get ahead of a few. Not bad for a large former hockey player. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: walked around and gave some high fives. What limited your ability to perform faster: training and experience all will come with time. Event comments: I didn't stay for the post race as I had to meet some people for brunch, but I heard the food was sub-par. Overall I liked the race and the run was nice course. The rain did start on the drive home. Talk about perfect timing. Last updated: 2008-06-13 12:00 AM

Woke up nice and early (5am) and ate my yogurt, fruit and granola mixture. Checked and loaded the bike and packed some fruit and gel to munch on before and during the race. The weather forecast calls for rain today but who else can make a living being right 10% of the time. Met my friend Kelly and her husband Andy, both did their first Duathlon. Showed Erica how to use the camera and had a lot of time to set up the bike and transition. Duathlons take a lot less prep time I was there realy early. Trying to decide what the weather was going to be like I looked and saw the sun was shining. Guess that means I am going sleveless today "suns out guns out" as mama used to say.
A little walking around talking to people.
