Pre-race routine:

I had been sick for the 5 days preceeding the race and hadn't really eaten in those days. (Bad idea.) I got up early, ate what I could (hard boiled egg and black coffee) and headed to the race site. At the site, I met up with some friends, got on my body glide and wetsuit and started the race.
Event warmup:

I didn't do a warmup because the swim was so long. Because I was just trying to finish the race, not win it, I was planning on using the first few hundred yards as a warm up.

Comments:

I was not in the best physical condition for this race. My shoulder was totally shot by the third mile, forcing me to waste a ton of energy swimming breast stroke and attempting to kick on my back. I guess my heart thing was kind of bad to ignore, because I ended up in the ER after the race because the PSVT came back. Oops. Not one of my best swims. At all. (pretty much embarrassing)
What would you do differently?:

1) Focus less on staying at the top of the current. I should have not swam diagonally against the current as I did. Instead I should have swam as far up the current as I could and then swam straight on course (between the bridges) until I drifted too far down the current and then made a definitive turn back up current. Swimming diagonally was really frustrating and definitely wasted alot of unnecessary energy.

2) I probably should have been eating for the few days prior, but I was pretty sick so I couldn't. Next time I will try to be more nutritionally prepared.

3) Get my shoulder fixed BEFORE swimming. It was in pretty bad shape for the week and a half after the swim. I haven't swam since this race because of my shoulder (about 2 weeks).
Post race
Warm down:

It was pretty crowded on the beach so I couldn't do too much as a warm down. I should have walked around more, rather than sitting down a few moments after finishing. Bad idea...that made my PSVT come back and landed me in the ER for 3 hours after the race. Boo.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

1) Swimming diagonally against the current!
2) PSVT
3) SHOULDER!!
4) My wetsuit straps kept rubbing on my neck and gave me ridiculous chafing. Next time I'll use a different wetsuit and more body glide!

Event comments:

I didn't get the experience the post race activities because I was in an ambulance! They were nice though...

Wow that is slow... I had an episode of PSVT in the beginning of the race and ignored it, so I don't think my heart was in the greatest condition to swim.
