Pre-race routine:

Watch other athletes start
Should have got in and checked my goggles
Event warmup:

Stretched...Socialized...got real scared
Swim
  • 16m 34s
  • 547 yards
  • 03m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

As soon as my face hit the water, my goggles filled up. I darn near drown trying to get them to seal. I gave up and side stroked the whole race.
What would you do differently?:

Check my goggles. It wasn't until the race was over that it occurred to me the cap is probably what caused the problem. They are great goggles that I never had a problem with until then. I'll train with a cap a few times now to make sure it'll work. I do sub 2 minute 100's in the pool so I'm sure I can improve on this for the next race
Transition 1
  • 03m 37s
Comments:

I used the transition to get my breathing back to normal. I didn't really try too hard to have a fast transition.
What would you do differently?:

Hopefully next time I will be in better shape coming into the transition and will actually try to make it faster.
Bike
  • 50m 20s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 14.78 mile/hr
Comments:

I probably did the least amount of training for this, because I wasn't worried about not being able to finish it. Also, there are no hills in Monroe county, other than overpasses, so I wasn't at all prepared for hills.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for this. I'm using an old 12 speed, maybe I'll get some aero bars for it, until I decide to get a real tri bike.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

I was still dead from that hill, so I took it easy here too. Speed laces helped alot. It took me a while to rack the bike, I had to scooch some room to do it. I started to go out the bike exit, until I realized I was going the wrong way. It's amazing what a lack of oxygen to the brain will do to you.
What would you do differently?:

I may decide to go sockless, although at this point, I doubt that it would make much difference
Run
  • 32m 54s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

I can't complain at all about my performance on the run, considering how I felt going into it. It's actually faster than my first 5K that I ran in February. At least I am getting better.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, it took all the will I could muster to keep going.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience. Overall physical condition

Event comments:

Other than the SNAFU with the goggles, I'm pleased with how I did. This was my first triathlon. I hadn't done any training at all until October of last year. I can't wait to do it again.
