Pre-race routine:

Well, didn't have one! Woke up at 0500 from Locust Grove and traveled the whole time. Arrived to get packet, get marked, and set up transition at 0715!!!

Can you say GNATS????!!!! Man, if you were out of the water and not racing, you were getting swarmed by gnats! Man, that was nuts!
Swim
  • 08m 11s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

The start was really crowded. To the left, there were a bunch of weeds that you couldn't/didn't want to wade into. Once the wave started, you really had to jockey for position.

Swim was much better and faster, though. Can't wait to break 2 consistently!
Transition 1
  • 02m 19s
Comments:

The run up to T1 was uphill and kind of long! I passed a bunch of ppl running hard. I was up near the front of the racks. Stepped on a few rocks (ouch) and had to look where I was running!

Yankz really saved me some time here. The guy next to me sat down to tie his shoes and I had both of my shoes on before he finished tying his first shoe! Put on my shirt, helmet, sunglasses and ran out hard to the mount area.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Bike
  • 44m 38s
  • 13.6 miles
  • 18.28 mile/hr
Comments:

Really got going and passed some ppl on nice bikes. I was on my Trek 4300 MTB. I really feel like I could really, really lower my time significantly if I get a tri or road bike.

I was only passed by one female, thank goodness! She had a nice bike with disks and an aggressive setup.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. My MTB gave it the best it could!
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

Very good time. I had the 6th fastest T2 in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Dropped everything fast and ran out fast.
Run
  • 24m 18s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I really felt like I was running much slower. I was only passed by two ppl, a 15 year old kid and a 50-something year old man. I was not passed by any females, thank goodness!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank a bottle of water, a coke, and had a banana.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

MTB. Need a tri/road bike!

Event comments:

I like this course, minus the gnats! I will probably do this again next year. It was pretty cool seeing a father/son (just a guess) duo compete as one. They were kind of like Team Hoyt.
