Overall Rank = 43/150
Age Group = 30 - 35
Age Group Rank = 11/21
Pre-race routine:

I had two breakfast bars and a G2 that morning. Four trips to the bathroom and a very little warm-up.
Event warmup:

Shook my arms to get my swim stroke down. That was about it. I should have done more. When will I learn.
Swim
  • 35m 16s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 09s / 100 yards
Comments:

I still need to get better at the swim. I am giving up 5 to 8 minutes because of bad technique. But at least I didn't freak out and really enjoyed this leg of the race.
What would you do differently?:

Warmed up.
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Bike
  • 1h 13m 56s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 20.21 mile/hr
Comments:

Need to get a little stronger. Need more saddle time to develope a stronger back. I started getting stiff towards the end of the bike course.
What would you do differently?:

I need to learn how to jump on my bike with my shoes already clipped in.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Run
  • 50m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good. Started getting hot towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Like always, I should have pushed myself a little bit harder on the comeback. It would have been nice to have averaged less than 8 minutes per mile to bust the 2:40 mark.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around and drank three big mugs of water, one banana and bagel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience. I felt pretty happy with my time for my first Olympic but do see some areas that I could improve on.

Event comments:

Registration did not start on time. About 15 minutes late. Mandatory bike inspection started about an hour too late, which put a damper on our plans. Mandatory pre-race meeting the night before race started right during dinner time and was about 10 minutes delayed. But, overall this a good race and I would recommend it. Just make sure you wear tinted goggles because the last half of the swim goes directly into the sun, which makes it hard to spot.

Performance: Average
First open water swim in which I didn't freak out at the beggining. I felt very comfortable throughout the whole swim and should have pushed myself more. However, this was my first Olympic distance, so I was a hesitant to take off too fast.
Suit: No wet suit
Course: River swim.....there and back. Really good swim course except on the way back your went straight into the sun.

Course: I really surprised myself on the bike. I have never averaged over 20 miles per hour in a race before. I think there is still room for some imporovement. Nothing a $1K pair of wheels can't help.

Age Group: 6/21
Overall: 30/150
Performance: Good
Course: Hot. Temperature was probably up to 90 degrees by the time I was on the run course. It was a there and bike dirt road course that was somewhat sandy. Fairly difficult as it is called the "Dirt Road from Hell." Fairly hilly as well. Since running is my strong suit, I felt like a caught a lot of people that might have gotten ahead of me on the swim.
