Pre-race routine:

Slept horrible. Late night because of Cousin's birthday and Riot (the puppy) decided he needed to go potty in the middle of the night. Egg white burrito 2 hours before and a peanut butter sandwhich 1 hour before race.
Event warmup:

Some stretching, and about 200 yards of swimming before they kicked everyone out.

Comments:

Started well, hugged the inside. Made it to the 1st buoy and the turn was very good. The long straightaway, caught some other swimmers and had some difficulty getting around them. Making the turn for home, I caught 3 swimmers going side by side by side all doing the breat stroke. Had to go very wide to get around them and then had a hard time getting back into my rythm and was way off course. Felt great, and was actually shocked by my 16 minute time. Thought it was more like 12...
What would you do differently?:

Stay on course.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Big transition area. Had a good time getting shoes on, but spent a lot of time getting through the area.
What would you do differently?:

Get around people in front of me faster with bike.

Comments:

Started well, hit the 1st hills hard and passed a lot of people. Was concerned with the wet roads so took a few corners slower than I normally would have. On my training ride of the bike course, I took a wrong turn and missed 1 of the hills (last one), so during the race I gave it my all on the hills I knew about and started cramping on the last hill. Also, some parts they had narrower with cones so made it hard to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Ride outside th cones more to pass more people. Do the correct training ride.
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

Felt good here. Shoes on/off quick. Ate my hammer gel during the run.
What would you do differently?:

Run all way through the transition area.

Comments:

I am just not a fast runner.
Post race
Warm down:

stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weather, sleepiness, the run.

Event comments:

Overall I like this race. It is getting crowded, but it's well organized. Don't like the city ordinance limiting the pre-race swim.
