Pre-race routine:

Sign in Set up transition and had to pee.
When I got to my assigned transition spot the area was full of other peoples stuff all over the place. Some guy told me I could use the racks in the back since there wasn't enough room!
Event warmup:

I walked to the swim start and did some easy streaching

Comments:

I really need to work on my swin technique. I used jsut about every stroke known to man and a few I made up to make it. I usually practice in the Ohio river with my wet suit on and I think I would have picked up some time if I had it on. I should have but no one else was wearing them, I guess I surcome to peer pressure! I even had it.
What would you do differently?:

I would haev worn my wet suit, I had it and decided not to because of getting it off with the timing chip. I would have made up more time in the water with it on than I would have ever lost in T-1
Transition 1
  • 02m 51s
Comments:

I took a few minutes to dry my feet off well, I just wanted them to be good and dry before putting my shoes on. I don't have clipless yet and use my running shoes. I put my helmet on and then took it off to get my sweat band on so I needed to think through the process and have a better plan or order of what I needed to do to smooth it out!
What would you do differently?:

Have a good plan and use it every time in the same order so there is no mistake what is next.
Position my self better with respect to swim-in, bike-out and run out!
Bike

  • 12.5 miles
  • 16.53 mile/hr
Comments:

I need to work on my cycling, I just need to do the miles. I know that is the only way to get better. I also need to ride with some people who can help me get better.
What would you do differently?:

I would take the time to put on some riding shorts and remember my gloves which I left on the trunk of my car. Belive it or not they were actually there when I got back to my car!
Need to do some work in my back and neck to stay in the areo position. I noticed on my computer that I would gain about 2 to 3 MPH while in the aero position, that is when it was working! Gotton my computer set and ready so I could keep track of where I was on the course.
Transition 2
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

T-2 went well I just had to rack my bike and take off my helmet. I did wipe down my head before running out. Went really smooth, I was close to the run out!
I walked how I was going to get to my transition area before which I think helped also so I would know what it was going to look like.
What would you do differently?:

Not really anything I can think of. I did stop for a few seconds to hit the spil button on my watch to keep track of my splits which with the timing chips it does it for you so that cost me a few seconds.
Run
  • 27m 41s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 39s  min/mile
Comments:

It was an ok run it was getting pretty warm by the time I made it to the run portion due to the start times. It was a smooth concrete surface the whole trip so it wasn't hard on the ankles.
I did have a little cramping when I first took off in my left calf but it worked itself out the first 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I think I could have drank a little more but I felt ok just kept looking for the end and it finally got there
What would you do differently?:

Not really sure, I know I can improve my times but overall I though it went ok it was right at an average pace for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed a water and a gator aid and was walking to my transition space and a friend from highschool was there and yelled at me so I stopped to talk to her and sat down for a few. I probably should have walked a little more to slowly warm down.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of experiece again I think would be the biggest factor. I should have worn my wet suit and I think the swim would have been much better.
I need to put some mile on my bike and do some neck exercises to strenghten my neck and back to be albe to stay in the areo position.

Event comments:

I really had a blast this was not my first multi sport race but it was my first Tri, one I won't forget I am sure. This is really addicting. The race course was set up great and ran really well especially with the number of people that were there.
My only complaint would be that since I pre-registered and it cost me 65$ I didn't get a race bag. I know there usually isn't much of value in those bags but since I pre-registered I would have liked to have the option to get one. A 65$ T-shirt was what I walked away with but it was worth the satifaction of becoming a Triathlete!

Course: Was pretty flat for the most part and pretty rough. There were really a lot of turns that you had to slow down for. It seemed just as you would get up to a good speed you'd be slowing down for a turn. Not much to look at just typical urban area I guess. It was very well marked and they had people and police to make sure traffic was stopped adn we knew which way to go. Crossed a couple of RR tracks that were rough.

Course: It was a flat running course for the most part very little grade in just a few places. Had the right amount of water/gatoraid stops along the way. I had to pee so I ducked behind a big rock and peed which cost me about a minute or two, but I had to go and the rest of the course was to open to just stop and let it fly!
