Pre-race routine:

Well I will first say I wasnt even going to write this because i have a pretty shitty attitude right now- but oh well....

I was feeling really nervous the few days prior and didnt sleep much and didnt feel like eating much either...not really the best was to go into an IM.
Also for those of you who dont know I have been anemic all season and have had a tough time with my training. I pretty much got the time in but my work out quality was lacking. I didnt have a ton of confidence but with the taper nad the blood level finally going up I did actually believe things would go well and I had a chance to pull off a decent race. Ha!

Anways my friend Terri stayed with me the night before and drove me down and hung with me all morning (thanks girl!!)
Event warmup:

race morning I went from nervous and anxious to feeling fine to feeling freaked out.... whatever- Steve came along and made me chill out and take some deep breaths.
Ok- whatever Game on.
Headed to the water to try to get to my secret super starting place

Comments:

Well I didnt actually make it all the way to my super spot cuz I went in the water so late. So I started about 10 people away from the red bouy and about three deep. Holy shit did I get the crap beat out of me! I still have a scrape on the back of my neck and I believe I bit my lip so hard I tasted blood. Not that it got me freaked outmuch- i mean I dont like it- but it doesnt really affect my swim I didnt think.
I just kind of went with it..... I figured just get thru the swim then the day will be fun.
I swam almost 260,000 yds in training this year because I was unhappy with my swim time last year. A lot of good that did.... I was two minutes slower....WTF? I think I even swam a lot straighter too.
I guess I did not put near enough effort into this swim. Damn.
What would you do differently?:

ummm...swim fatser. get into position earlier.

Well after my crap swim I had to make up time somehow. The volunteer is SLOWLY trying too unknot my bag- I grab it and just rip it open and dump the shit out. yeesh...this is a race lady!!
Grab my stuff and go- I am pretty good at running with my bike shoes on :)
My bike was way on the opposite end from the bike exit...... yeah that was agood 400 yd run!!
What would you do differently?:

Ummm.. I had my garmin in my bento box.. I forgot to put it on my wrist so I had to do it when I was riding...umm... Im not very coordinated when it comes to that! So I would say put the garmin on.

Comments:

Plan was to go easy the first 30 miles then take it up to Z3 and then by mile 80 I could push hard all the way into town IF I felt good.
I knew from the first hill it was not going to be my day. I felt week and I wanted to cry (this is how I felt in training ALL summer...ugh). I also had to pee. So I peed on my bike but it just wasnt very satisfying:) SO I got to where the special needs bags were and had a volunteer hold my bike wheile I went... I figured maybe if I stopped and got my head back inthe game Id be OK.
I did feel a little better and as soon as we got to Mt Horeb I picked up the pace. Iactually felt OK and started passing some people. I was kind of evil.... Id pass someone and say something nice...like "nice bike" and say to myself "ha! Se ya later bitch!" hee hee. Once I strted to pick up the pace I wasnt passed by one single girl (yeah I know the fat ones were so far ahead of me after the swim)
Finally I see Josh he says "tamintor" Ha so we passed each other back and forth all the way to the helix. I really thought I still owed him an ass kicking since he ditched me for TTT.
All in all the bike was just OK...Z3 felt Ok- but I never really felt like Z4. bummer- I know I could do this course averaging 19 on a good day. I am positive.
Once again the support out there is incredible.... the crowds just make you smile. I knew so many people watching I loved it.... you guys have no idea how great it is for us to see you out there cheering.
Well I was only about 5 minutes fatser then last year..... not near as fast as I should be.
My nutrition was smack on though. It was hot and I felt fine...no cramping, no stomach issues.... I was a little salty though...mmmmmm:)
I had 5 1/4 bottle of infint, 1 clif bar, a banana half, and maybe 3 aerobottles of water.
HR ave 151....top of Z2
What would you do differently?:

ummm... bike faster

Well I went out in hopes that I could have a decent run and still pull off a decent time. I felt pretty good. I was suppose to take the first couple miles slow to get the hr down....so I did...by about mile 2ish I started the I cant breathe thing. Its sounds like asthma but an inhaler does nothing. I am pretty sure it is just the anemia thing still hanging around ( I am hoping because otherwise I have a real problem I need to figure out). I was like screw this- I am not running/walking 26 miles like this.....that is just dumb. I said Id rather be quitter then a loser (nice attitude- huh?)
Then Josh comes along....convinces me to walk with him. I say fine. But I was quitting at the turn around. It was sort of fun running or walking.. hey we have a pretty speedy walk...with him. A lot of people recognized us from the movie...too funny. We didrun some and when we did run it was probaly a decent pace.... it just didnt last long. We were actually faster then a lot of the runners:)
Anyway I decided I would finish with him- however freakin retarded I thought it was to walk most of the IM marathon.
Oh well.... what can I do? I actually feel like it was my race and did what I could- I had no control over the shit my body went thru this summer so I am trying to not let it bother me.
I am glad I finished- it does set a good example for my kids. Thanks Josh.
It was fun seeing everyone out there.
I even had sort of a you rock HTFU note from Steve in my SN bag... would have probaly been a lot more motivating if I had been running and having a better race.
What would you do differently?:

I dunno.
Post race
Warm down:

eat.
I will kill this course one day... I promise.

I almost signed up for 2010 but got to the front of the line and decided I wasnt going to sign up for a tough race until I know I can race to my capabilities again.

There is NOTHING like IMWI..... nothing
