  • 4224 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, I am slow and not comfortable in deep water...so, even though this was not stellar by most standards, it was pretty good for me.
What would you do differently?:

Even more open water swimming.
Transition 1
  • 12m 41s
Comments:

This could be practiced a lot more. I did not focus basis the length of this event. Possibly I would re-think that a bit
What would you do differently?:

Practice it more
Bike
  • 7h 08m 35s
  • 112 miles
  • 15.68 mile/hr
Comments:

Flatted my rear tire on the second loop in Verona. Killed about 15 minutes of my Bike. Was a bummer, but.....goes with the territory. Changed the flat and was even more determined to attach the second leg of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Tubbular tire possibly. Anything to prevent a flat from happening again.
Transition 2
  • 10m 56s
Comments:

Had a lot of support on this course, so this was not overly stressful.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 5h 31m 5s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 12m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

The heat does funny things to me. Sucks the life right out of me. Without such great support by the people of the race and of Madison, I would not have made it.
What would you do differently?:

Possibly more heat training would have helped. This summer did not have much heat in Minnnesota so that was difficult. Also, potentially more brick training between bike to run. I would also not focus on carrying so much Infinit liquid on the race. Weighted me down to much.
Post race
Warm down:

Basically collapsing into my families arms.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough open water time. Having a flat on the bike. Slower transition times. Take in more liquids on the bike. Carry less liquids on the run.

Event comments:

This is a wonderful race, well supported. The people of Madison love this race and support it with unbelievable enthusiasim. Wow.
