Pre-race routine:

First triathlon, Drank a lot of water and gatorade day before and morning of event.

Ate pasta night before. Ate peanut butter and jelly sandwich on white the morning of the event.

Registration paper must have had my wife's age instead of mine (she did the race also) so my results are listed on the website in the wrong age group. So I'll have to figure out the correct division rank.

Comments:

First time in dark open water. I felt more buoyant than in the pool but the swim was crowded. I was running into people and getting run into so I did the backstroke until I let some people pass to get an opening.
What would you do differently?:

Get on the outside away from the crowd.

Put my shoes on at the transition instead of having them on my bike. Took a little time to get my legs under me. It was a long run to the transition area from the lake.

Wore socks for the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Practice biking without socks to see if I could tolerate it.

First 1/3 of bike tried to not go too fast. Drank Accelerade and followed with water.

Middle 1/3 of bike tried to go hard.

Last 1/3 went somewhat hard but slower than middle. Stood up near end to get some weight on legs
What would you do differently?:

Possibly go harder, do more hill training to prepare for race.
