Pre-race routine:

Short swim warm-up, lots of sitting around
Swim
  • 43m 52s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

I started on the inside at the very back but quickly ended up working my way to the outside. I was pretty far left the whole time except for when the kayaks would corral me in to round the bouys. I didn't really have any issues w/other people except for when the wave behind me caught up.
What would you do differently?:

Start on the outside, try not to swim away from the bouys so much
Transition 1
  • 04m
Comments:

I planned out my transition strategy while swimming. Goggles off, get some gatorade, top of wetsuit off, swim cap off, wetsuit strippers, get ready for bike
What would you do differently?:

I should have pulled my wetsuit below my butt before sitting down
Bike
  • 3h 27m 4s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.23 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed the bike. I went out hard and was able to maintain my pace, only dropping around miles 35-40 but then I picked it back up. I was able to get fluids at all of the aid stations but I probably didn't eat enough b/c I was starving on the run. I felt a little nauseated on the last few hills but by the time I got down the other side I felt fine.
What would you do differently?:

Eat more
Transition 2
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

Wasn't in any particular hurry in T2
Run
  • 2h 08m 24s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt fine but I was tired and unmotivated. I felt a little better after stopping to pee but still couldn't maintain a decent pace. It was wicked hot but there were a ton of aid stations w/hoses and sponges. I would get wet and feel good for about a quarter mile but then feel like crap again. I was afraid to push myself too much b/c I didn't want to make myself sick. Eating sport beans and alternating water and gatorade but then I started eating twizzlers b/c I was so hungry. I told myself that I would speed up on the second loop but ended up doing positive splits.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed myself harder. Walked less.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat, motivation

Event comments:

This race was amazingly well supported and all of the volunteers and police were excellent.
