Swim
Comments: Did not get a chance to get in the water before the start. My goggles kept leaking on the right eye and I kept having to stop and clear it. It finially sealed correctly after the 1st bouy. Thought I'd be able to swim the crawl for longer distances without having to site and do the breast stroke. The water felt good and I did not overheat in the wetsuit. Took it easy on the swim and did not over exert myself. Tried to concentrate more on my stroke. Removed my wetsuit before I exited the water, but always have trouble getting thewetsuit over my ankle chip. What would you do differently?: Get in more laps and OWS. Transition 1
Comments: Felt pretty good coming out of the water and was able to run off the beach and up to transition. What would you do differently?: Everything went pretty well. Bike
Comments: This was my first race using Infinit (with protein) and I felt that it worked out pretty well. I kept my bike pace comfortable, but my rear end was hurting a bit. Stayed aero for the majority of the bike course. Tried to keep my cadence up on the last 15 miles into the headwind. Tried stretching my legs a few times about 5 miles out and my thighs were feeling tight. What would you do differently?: I started getting the burpies after drinking the Infinit about half way through the bike course. Will order more Infinit without the protein since I din't feel I needed it. Transition 2
Comments: Felt well enough coming off the bike and running into transition. Before getting off the bike I thought I might need to pee while in transition, but after getting off the bike my bladder felt better. Grabbed my wetted rag and a Hammer Gel and headed out for the run. What would you do differently?: Everything went fairly well. Run
Comments: My right thigh felt like it was wanting to cramp up about 0.5 miles out so I stopped and stretched it. My legs felt like they were on the verge of cramping for the first 2 miles, but then started feeling much better. I alternated between getting a gel with water and gatorade at the aid stations. Did not feel like I had to stop and walk at all even though I walked through most the aid stations to drink. Tried to keep my pace around 8 minute miles and my heart rate below 150. My pace went to about 8:30 the last few miles. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Post race
Warm down: Grabbed a water and met up with my wife and friends to wait for my nephew to finish. Had time to go shower off and change clothes before my nephew came in. Ate some pretzels. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not training enough. Event comments: For being its inagural event this race went extremely well. The volunteer support was phenomenal. Ate sushi at about 5:30 Friday evening and then just drank Gatorade and water the rest of the evening. Was there at transition dropping off my bike and swapping out the bald tires on my nephews bike with some new Pro Race 3s. Had told him to get new tires weeks before the event, but he kept procrastinating. We get the tires replaced and head to the mandatory pre-race meeting. Woke up around 3:15am and drank 2 Ensures and choked down an Uncrustable with some water. Went back to bed for about an hour and then got up and took a shower. Got dressed and met up with my nephew to drive to the race site.
Got to the race site around 5:30 to set up transition. My nephew tops off his tires and then a few minutes later - Ka Blam! His rear tube blew out! So there we were replacing the tube. Had wanted to go for a short run and swim, but never got around to it.
