Swim
  • 44m 21s
  • 2000 yards
  • 02m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did a terrible job of navigating the swim. I chose to swim the bouys & should have followed the pack along the shore line. This mistake cost me atleast 8-10 minutes. I felt awesome swimming.Stroke was good & bi-lateral breathing the entire course.
What would you do differently?:

STUDY THE SWIM COURSE!!!!! This mistake cost me a sub 6 time.
Transition 1
  • 03m 20s
Comments:

I did not like the rocks under the carpet coming from the swim. Had to walk 20-30 meters. Transition was very large & most of my T1 time was spent traveling.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing-went well compared to previous races.
Bike
  • 3h 01m
  • 56 miles
  • 18.56 mile/hr
Comments:

I rode aero 90% of the course. The wind was very demoralizing. Under non-windy conditions I could have averaged 3-4 mph more easily. I was very pleased with bike performance. Saw alot of people having a tough day out on the course.
What would you do differently?:

Stay aero 100% of race. Back/neck were sore.
Transition 2
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Transition was huge=longer time
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 2h 24m
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Came off the bike feeling great. Got my legs going after 1/2 mile or so. Walked the water stops (30-40 seconds) & ran strong til about mile 9. At mile 9 I just fell apart. I got real hot & quads were just shot. Not sure what happened, i went from feeling very good to very bad in a matter of minutes. At that point, i resorted at a 50/50 walk-run. The crowds were great from about mile 11 til the finish.
What would you do differently?:

I think the lack of heat/humidity training during colder months killed my run. Heat index was in the mid 90's. I also was disapointed in the water stops being 1.5 miles apart.
Post race
Warm down:

Found a nice piece of sidewalk and sat down for about 10 minutes. Made to the food & had some pizza & hot Gatorade. Watched about 30 minutes of finishers come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This is an early race & weather prohibited a lot of my longer bikes & a few runs. Plus a temp change of about 15-20 degrees hotter than training caused problems for most everyone on the run.

Event comments:

This will be a very nice race in the future when all the first year kinks are worked out. Overall I was satisfied & will do it again-maybe 2011. The finish was crowded, but was amazing!!!
