Pre-race routine:

Up early at 3:00 am to get to the parking area. Had some steak and eggbeaters for breakfast with a small bagel. Would not open up the transition area until 5:00 am. Catnapped a little in the truck until it opened and went to set up my T1/T2 and got body marked. Then the wait began. Race started 35 mins late due to a severe car crash on the bike course. Had to wait for wave 14 (65 min from the start)
Event warmup:

Did some streatching and a little swimming prior to my wave going off. Also had a power bar 1/2 hour prior to start.
Swim
  • 39m 9s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

great swim in fresh water. Lots of hand to hand combat for most of it. Did catch some slower swimmers from other waves and was passed by faster
What would you do differently?:

grow fins
Transition 1
  • 03m 10s
Comments:

wetsuit strippers were great. Had a long run from the back corner to get in and out on the bike (end of row W by run out exit)
Bike
  • 3h 10m 31s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.64 mile/hr
Comments:

Great ride. Glad I had the 27-12 cassette. Well marked course with 5 aid stations with plenty of food and water. It got real hot out and drank like a fish without any output. Also was dropping endurolytes like candy to replace salt.
Transition 2
  • 04m 1s
Comments:

took a little time to reapply sunscreen and body glide. long run in on the bike and a short run out
Run
  • 2h 52m 45s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 13m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

long hot slog. by the time I hit the run, it was the hottest period of the day. At times found little shade. I would run a while then walk a while. just could not keep cool at this point. Went under every water shower available. At one point stuffed my top with shaved ice and could not even feel it against my body. Tried to drink as much as possible.
What would you do differently?:

Loose weight and run more. Times would not be bad if I could do the run faster.... my life story
Post race
Warm down:

got some fluid into me and some solid food, did some stretching and tried to relax in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat, the weight, the late start

Event comments:

events started late due to outside circumstances. Great race and look forward to trying it again next year.
