Pre-race routine:

Stayed at my parent's house. Slept in my old room, new bed though. Had a good rest. I seem to have gotten this part down. Sleeping the night before a race.

Woke up, got ready and drove to Starbucks. No coffee. Not open. So kept rolling on down to EL. As fate would have Lara S. was right next to me. How wonderful is that!!!
Event warmup:

Stretched, swam a lot. My normal routine.
Swim
  • 29m 40s
  • 1600 yards
  • 01m 51s / 100 yards
Comments:

Not my fastest swim ever, but hey it was my first big OWS. I feel good with this considering a women drown at the race. I wish I could swim straight will continue to work on sighting.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 29s
Comments:

A very long transition for me. I had to run what seemed like a 1/2 mile to get to my bike. Not as fast as I had hoped for.
What would you do differently?:

Just keep moving.
Bike
  • 1h 31m 38s
  • 27 miles
  • 17.68 mile/hr
Comments:

This was tough. Holy shit that is slow for me. The hilliest course I have ever ridden. Obviously, I need to really work on hills more. My chain also fell off. Got passed so many times I think I did started to cry at one point. Big guys on big, fast, hot tri bikes where constantly passing me. I could hear their gear changing as they swept on by. 3 women passed me. I tried to hold my own.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a computrainer and ride the hilliest courses you can buy.
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

Slow again, but hey I was freakin tired.
Run
  • 57m 32s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Ok, I was beat. I did the best I could. To think I thought I might pull a low 8 minute per mile is laughable at this point. I am just happy to have finished and put my first OLY to bed!!!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around sucking on oranges until my head stopped spinning.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was a tough course. I have been training hard, but obviously will need to work on a lot of stuff this winter with my wonderful coach.

Event comments:

This is a great race. I can't wait to go back and give it another shot next year. It is hard both physically and mentally. I will do better next year!!!!
