Total Time = 1h 17m 59s
Overall Rank = 67/136
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 6/10
Pre-race routine:

Set up transition area, used to porta pottie, relaxed. Ate a bagel and drank water about 2 hrs before start and had water and a gel pack about 15 minutes before the start.
Event warmup:

Stretched for about 10 minutes and jogged about 1/2 mile.
Swim
  • 16m 37s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

TERRIBLE SWIM!!!!!!! Water was pretty chilly and there was a pretty good surf on the way out. It took me 6 minutes to get to the first buoy.
What would you do differently?:

Need to get into the water before the start, however the pre-race brief impeded that. Need to beach train more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Great transition! Top in my age group. Next guy in my age group was 10 secs behind me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Good transition.
Bike
  • 32m 50s
  • 13 miles
  • 23.76 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a good ride. I felt strong and was passing people pretty easily. Need to get out of the water sooner to set myself up for a better placing after the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Need to focus on pulling up on the pedals a little.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Not a bad transition. Nowhere as good as T1. Took a few extra seconds to grab a gatorade drink off my bike before leaving T2.
What would you do differently?:

Drink on the way in to T2. There was also an aid station at the exit of transition. There was no need for the drink in T2.
Run
  • 26m 57s
  • 3.6 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a pretty good run. Ended up slowing at the mid course aid station to get my gel pack down. That cost me a few seconds. Need to work on that.

Had a really good finish. Made a move on the guy in front of me about 1/3 of a mile before finish and it paid off. It moved me up one spot in my age group.
What would you do differently?:

Different fuel? I slowed because the gel was thick and I needed to get water down.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched after a banana, bread and water. Took a slow jog back to transition to get my gear.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

SWIM, SWIM, SWIM

Event comments:

My only gripe was the late pre-race brief. It was supposed to go from 6:30 to 6:45 which would have allowed a few minutes in the water before the start. The brief wasn't held until 6:45 and we had to run over to the swim start 2 minutes before the gun.
