Comments:

Since it was my first tri, I started in the back on the right side to avoid getting smacked around as much. It was very challenging at first to get a clear line as people kept slowing down in front of me and I had to zig zag a bit. After things cleared out better, I was able to get into a groove and work on my breathing and stroke. Rounding the buoy was a little rough, but I was able to navigate and sight pretty well overall.
What would you do differently?:

I should have given myself more time to get comfortable in the water and warm up before the race. I also got too wrapped up in the excitement of my first race and wasn't concentrating much on pushing myself in the water. Most of my attention was on navigating.
Transition 1
  • 02m 40s
Comments:

Very slow transition due to wetsuit removal. I also decided to put my bike shoes on first rather than have them on my bike.
What would you do differently?:

I need to start practicing getting faster and removing the wetsuit and also possibly consider clipping the shoes onto the bike before hand.
Bike
  • 39m 30s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.88 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike portion of the race was 3 flat and fast loops. I was able to keep up a good pace of myself, but feel I could have done more to push myself on such a flat course.
What would you do differently?:

The bike itself went very well. I just need to continue training to sustain a higher level of performance.
Transition 2
  • 01m 51s
Comments:

Much better transition this time around. I came to a full stop and got off before the transition and ran the bike in while wearing my shoes. However, I was able to switch shoes very quickly and move on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice keeping shoes clipped in and removing feet before the end of the ride.
Run
  • 27m 22s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

Running was definitely my weak point on the race. I spent most of my time on the biking and swimming training as I most unfamiliar with them. My endurance failed me during the run and it was a struggle to keep moving. I took every water opportunity, but was unable to get up to speed on the run. My sprint at the finish was essentially nonexistent as well.
What would you do differently?:

Put more training into the run portion of the race. Perhaps include something to fuel up on at the start of the run.
Post race
Event comments:

The actual race day was organized and executed very well from my first-timer perspective. I was very disappointed with the pre-race organization and communication. There was little information available until the week leading up to the race. But the race day itself made up for this.
