Total Time = 1h 18m 28s
Overall Rank = 26/268
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

Got there too early. Pretty typical.
Event warmup:

Swam for 5 minutes in the river
Swim
  • 12m 49s
  • 1320 yards
  • 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

I am swimming much better this year and my time, for the most part, reflected this. I was 3rd for the second year in a row but only 20 seconds behind first place. The #1 & #2 swimmers were in different heats.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

I lost a bit of time in T1. Just stupid stuff. Even with that stuff I managed 22/168 but was aided by a great location for my stuff.
What would you do differently?:

Stay focused
Bike
  • 39m 15s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.34 mile/hr
Comments:

I've got to figure out what I'm doing on the bike. I felt I raced hard. I think I need to change my training routine. I'm also considering getting a tri bike with a more aero position. I should at least get an aero helmet.
What would you do differently?:

Get some coaching
Transition 2
  • 00m 26s
Comments:

I am good in T2 and was aided by a great racking position
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 23m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a good run for me. I don't train for the run much because it is too hard on my knee and aggravates a piriformous problem. I had only run 3 times since I broke a little toe a month before. My run was a result of overall conditioning.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Nothing special except two cups of free beer (it's Oregon and that's what we do).

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing. This was my best race in all of the 2 years that I have been training and competing in triathlons. I did not taper for this race. I don't think it would have made a difference. What was important is that I did not go into the race overtrained.

Event comments:

Swim start waves were a bit wacky. Also the bike/run in and out were in the same location so if you were racked close (I was this year) it was an advantage. If you were racked far (I was last year) it was a disadvantage. It was not a big difference. Maybe 50 feet.
