Age Group Rank = 6/23
Event warmup:

Got in the water and swam out past some of the buoys and back. Race got delayed about 1 hour 10 minutes so did this multiple times.
Swim
  • 05m 25s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 10s / 100 yards
Comments:

Treading water for about 5 minutes until they got the race started. Took a wide swim around the buoys and managed to avoid contact with most people. Picked up the pace as I headed back into shore.
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

Did a quick, but fast transition. No real problems. (10 of 23).
Bike
  • 49m 54s
  • 15.4 miles
  • 18.52 mile/hr
Comments:

Hard course with the hills. Couple of real sharp turns and some wind gusts. Legs quite sore and fatigued from past few days of exercise.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little easier the day before to allow going faster on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m 37s
Comments:

Felt like I flew through the transition. Got the bike racked and shoes on very quickly (Left running shoes tied). (4 of 23).
Run
  • 18m 24s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 05m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Due to poor course marking, no official / volunteer at a key turn, and following of other runners I managed to chop off 1/3 of the final mile which totally skews some of the results (I wonder how many people did this). Didn't mean to chop off the distance. Extrapolated time: 20:40 (Drops me to 10th in the run for the age group assuming the rest of the people didn't cut the turn and from 6th to 7th overall in my age group).

Otherwise, I felt awesome on the run and averaged ~6:50 pace on a very hill and windy course.

What would you do differently?:

Make sure I know the course fully and yell at people going the wrong way.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of rest and exercising over the past week. Just put in back to back 100 mile weeks on the bike and did 44 miles the day before the race on the same hilly course.

Event comments:

Max Performance is still a young company figuring the best ways to run the race. Now I know that yesterday was a logistical nightmare with the wind, but it was forecasted and they need to have a little better back up plans and ways of communicating them to the athletes. The worse part of the delay was not knowing what was going on and if the race was ever going to start.

The mishap in the run course was quite annoying and could easily be fixed with a single volunteer.

Other then that the race went very smoothly and all of my athletes (15 with 5 this being there first tri) had a great time and finished well.
