Total Time = 2h 39m 40s
Overall Rank = 152/372
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 44/97
Pre-race routine:

some oatmeal, coffee and out the door by 5:30am.
Event warmup:

My wife blew out a tire (brand new $60 tire!) during her warmup so I spent my time buying her a new tire and getting it ready. At least it happened during the warmup and not during the race.

Swim
  • 26m 57s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

One of the roughest swims I've had from a contact perspective but it still went fairly well.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Transition 1
  • 04m 26s
Comments:

Way too slow, not really sure why just couldn't get moving.
What would you do differently?:

move it!
Bike
  • 1h 13m 28s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.29 mile/hr
Comments:

This bike was tough on me. I just couldn't get into a grove. I worked way too hard for a 20mph avg.

I also had a frustrating run in with a photographer. Towards the very end of the course there were slower bikers to my right and right in front of me was a photographer. Instead of moving, she's pointing at me to move over, but I couldn't due to the slower bikers.

After a 10-15 second game of chicken she finally moved and yelled something at me as I went past. Sorry, but should have I have to slow down for a photographer?? I don't think so.

What would you do differently?:

Run the photographer over?? :)
Transition 2
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

I was very cold by the time I hit t2 so moving quickly was tough. My feet were numb!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really - I'm usually 30-45 seconds quicker in normal conditions.
Run
  • 52m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

For me, this was one of my best runs. Last year I avg over a 9 mn mile and when I hit the top of the hill my only thought was "my God, I don't know how I'm going to make it back".

This time it was "wow that went quick" and I felt good the entire time.

Running is still my worst event but it's slowly getting better.
What would you do differently?:

Probably could have pushed it a bit harder on the way back.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited 5 minutes, then started to freeze. Quickly grabbed a sweatshirt and waited for my Wife and friends to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

April like conditions in June??

Event comments:

I really like this race but I do think they need to spend a bit more time providing guidance to all the newbies, especially as it relates to the bike. I do think it's great that they are out there but they need to explain how to stay right, etc.
