Total Time = 2h 15m 21s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

Ate oatmeal for breakfast and had some water and coffee. Packed up racing stuff and drove to WSMR.
Event warmup:

Jogged around area and stretched out.
Swim
  • 09m 33s
  • 437 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was looking forward to the swim after the bike leg being so windy at the end. Surprisingly, my arms were very tired. It didn't feel like a very fast swim for me. I did pass one person on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

It wouldn't hurt to do some upper body strength training.
Transition 1
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I was a little clumsy getting onto the bike. This transition was after the run.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions.
Bike
  • 1h 34m 40s
  • 21.75 miles
  • 13.79 mile/hr
Comments:

The last 10K of the bike had very strong winds coming at me head on. My speed dropped dramatically from an average of 17 mph to just over 7 mph. The ride was going well, it was just that last part that was tough.
What would you do differently?:

Practice with gears and increase riding time.
Transition 2
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

I was slow after riding in the strong wind.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions.
Run
  • 27m 33s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt like I kept my pace where I wanted it to be, maybe it was a little slow on the second mile. I was comfortable on the run and was able to pass quite a few people after the first mile. (I made sure that I didn't go out too fast, which is so easy to do)
What would you do differently?:

Do more speedwork when I train, so that I can have a faster pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Got out of pool and drank some gatorade. Gil met me with a towel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Wind during the bike leg.

Event comments:

They are well organized and put on a great race.
