Pre-race routine:

Got up early ate a homemade breakfast buritto, and some fruit. Prepared all of my equipment and completed some stretching. Took my gear to transition went back to my room and got ready for the race.
Event warmup:

Stretching, wearing the wetsuit, a short swim in the ocean.
Swim
  • 15m 28s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very tough swim as this was my first all combat race. I was actually happy with my time, but the constant running into and being run into, kicked, hit and overall chaos was frustrating. Need to learn better strategies for this typ of swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure yet
Transition 1
  • 03m 21s
Comments:

Transition went pretty good. I took time to drink some fluids and catch my breath, but everything else went well.
What would you do differently?:

Just get through transition and get the fluids I need after I start my ride.
Bike
  • 52m 51s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 18.73 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike went pretty smooth. I didn't shift into my small ring on the first time I had to climb the short but steep hill. I got it right the second time though.
What would you do differently?:

Either do a pre-ride or other scouting of the course to know what to expect.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

transition felt good. I took time to get a gel and a quick shot of Gatorade.
What would you do differently?:

Take the gel with me and just get my drinks on the course.
Run
  • 24m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good. I was able to push myself and catch several people in the last 1/2 mile or so. The beach run about ate my lunch after passing a couple of guys. Sprinting in sand bad.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank lots of water. stretched, walked down the beach and enjoyed the post race party.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of experience in the OWS. Not knowing the bike course. I could practice my transitions as I haven't really given them much thought to this point other than organizing my gear so I don't forget anything.

Event comments:

This was a fun triathlon. We made a family vacation out of it. The Red Rock folks put together a good event.
