Pre-race routine:

woke at 4, tired, went to rugby night before. showered, ate tuna roll, banana, gatorade. drove from brizzy to mooloolaba (about 1hr ). had protein carb mix drink around 6 am, set up transition. had another carb drink while waiting for 45 min in toilet line. wave started at 7.33
Event warmup:

waiting in toilet line.
Swim
  • 26m 1s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

felt good during the swim. tried to relax and never really pushed it.could see some different coloured caps from the 2 waves ahead as we overtook some. saw a couple of guys fro the wave behind overtake me. overall very comfortable.
What would you do differently?:

still a fair bit of improvement to be had here. feeling quite strong in the water but need to be consistant with the good technique. can feel myself get sloppy often.
Transition 1
  • 03m 55s
Comments:

long run to bike from swim. good transition though. dont think i could have improved
Bike
  • 1h 11m 23s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.89 mile/hr
Comments:

tail wind on way out, felt fast, up around 40 + ks an hr. headwind on the way back, ouch! but weather hit also , some strong rain. this actually bunched everyone. ended up in group of 30 odd which grew so couldnt help drafting and actually was easier.
What would you do differently?:

nothing. could have pushed harder to get out of group but with weather was a bit dangerous
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

everything soaked from rain so didnt put on socks. paid for this later
What would you do differently?:

put on socka
Run
  • 44m 21s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

despite my fastest ever time on the bike i felt quite rested starting the run. didnt put on socks and started to rub, was quite painful by 6 ks. didnt slow down tho. also desperately required to pee from about the 30 k mark on bike so this was annoying during run. otherwise felt good had gel about 10 min before end of bike and at 4-5 k mark so had plenty of energy and ran quite hard. pushed v hard last 3 k.
What would you do differently?:

worn socks. lost some skin which made it painful but didnt slow the run. not sure how to solve the need for toilet. felt the carb drinks really helped the energy during race. maybe too much fluid
Post race
Warm down:

breathed a lot

What limited your ability to perform faster:

need to improve swim technique and hold it consistantly. improve run. having been tri ing for 6 mths now this was my 2nd olympic distance. an improvement of 13 min from 1st one in november. all legs improved significantly. very happy with result. still a way to go to play with the big boys but its a possibilty:) really enjoying this sport!!

Event comments:

needed to have some portaloos at the swim start!
