  • Comments: I have to say that it really was a great experience coming to Las Vegas and doing this race. I don't think I would do it on a regular basis, due to the amount of time and expense it takes. However, I would absolutely recommend it as a "must do" race for anyone that qualifies. You get more of a special event than a typical IM 70.3 and they really try to make everything about the race very nice. I enjoyed the pre-race banquet and the post-race dinner / cocktail hour by the pool. It was also a huge opportunity to race with some of the fastest triathletes at this distance, as well as a deep pro field. Interestingly, at the post race cocktail hour we spoke with Bevan Docherty's son for 10-15 minutes, and then Bevan himself came over and hung out for a bit. Overall, a great experience and i'm definitely glad I decided to race.

  • Comments: This race was spectacular… and after spending some time contemplating if I'm even cut out for this I realized that I need to earn my way back there and give it another shot… faster and stronger. This course will test you. It is supposed to.

  • Comments: I hadn't planned on racing Vegas but was very happy to have gotten a roll down spot the month before in Boulder. I think I was mentally checked out and even though I trained well I don't think I was mentally prepared to race hard. I went in thinking I just want to have a good finish and I'm glad to be here. And it showed in my AVG HR numbers which were about 7-10 beats lower than Boulder. Linda and I arrived in Vegas Thursday evening and met up with my sister and her husband at the MGM for dinner. Didn't get back to our hotel until 3:00AM.. whoops Already off to a good start. Spent most of Friday putting the bike together and getting my transition bags ready. Drove the course with my team and kinda zoned out while my coach was talking about the course. Not sure what I was thinking but I don't think I was that into the race. I kept telling myself that I'd rally as the race loomed closer. On Saturday, I got up late. I figured the sleep would do me good and I headed out

  • Comments: This was my fourth IM brand race, and being a World Championship and all that, this one had more production than the others. Overall things were well organized, however being one of last waves to go, some of the aid stations were running out of ice. Not good in that kind of heat. I don't know if it was by chance, but most aid stations had a garden hose and nozzle set up to spray people down. That was a life-saver for me.

  • Comments: This was the f-ing World Championships, and I managed to finish within the top 200, so I shouldn't really be disappointed. However, I feel that I underperformed on the swim and bike, leaving several minutes on the course. Even though I never really felt hot, I know that the heat did effect me quite a lot, slowing me from my goal paces. Looking back at the overall race, it was a very challenging course, and probably the hardest race I've done to date. Will I do it next year? Well, my goal for next year is getting to Kona. I plan to attempt to qualify at two races: Eagleman (which will be very hot and I'd probably have to finish in the top 3 in my AG) and Tremblant (probably have to be top 6 in my AG). With two transition spots, there really wasn't an ideal location to stay at for this race. We found a hotel in between the two transition areas in Henderson that worked out well. It was easy to get to both locations, and close enough to Vegas that we were able to get in to a buffet
