  • Comments: There was no food left for us slowbys when we finished - at least other than a bagel, banana or ass tasting muscle milk. So my husband had to make a dash to the golf shop and buy a burger for me. Uncool. There are aspects of this race that are great - National Forest on the ride - and parts that were pretty bad - run course. But I am still glad I did it, freezing weather and all. I can say I did a half ironman, but i can't say I EVER want to do one again. 2011 will be put towards short course...going fast no endurance needed!

  • Comments: The race started about 15 minutes late due to needing additional time to let the fog lift off the lake, but that was beyond the race team's control.

  • Comments: The race went about as I planned. I've just got to train harder on the bike and realize I can push myself harder during the race. I've never blown-up in a race, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it so much.

  • Comments: Great way to end my first season. Thanks to all the AWESOME volunteers. Especially you guys at the finish line. Not sure why they were short handed there as everywhere else seemed to have more than enough people. I will race here again. The only suggestion would be to move the strippers back closer to the transition. So now I've finished an IM 70.3 and a small local HIM. Both are very cool in their own right but at the same time they are very different animals. I don't know if I prefer one over the other. But I do know I like this distance more than any of the others that I've raced. Its incredibly rewarding, you suffer a lot, and its manageable while still trying to live your life.

  • Comments: I really love this race. We did the first one in 2003 and this is my first time back. Races of this size are great for a number of reasons. Cheaper entry, more local old-school feel, lot of local support and...wait for it...NO DRAFTING! I liked the course, the organizers did a great job and I'll be back next year. Thanks, Greg. Sorry to hear about Milford's DNF. Considering the number of boxes and, coolers and t-shirts he loaded into the rental truck Thursday night, he certainly deserved better. And congratulations Mr. Ritter. You are one scary fast young man.

  • Comments: Race was well organized, plenty of enthusiastic volunteers. Loved the first timers finishers cup. The resort was very nice and a great venue for the race. I stuck to my race plan (thanks EN) and was pleased with my execution. Once again I'm so thankful for the blessings bestowed upon me to do these events and to have a wonderful supportive family.

  • Comments: Good race. Challenging because of the hills. Volunteer are so supportive. Everyone cheered at the end, probably because I was near the last to come through. Boy Scouts were awesome helpers. Realized most people can do a triathlon...a sprint, but HIM is not for everyone, and may not be for me again. It's grueling and it puts a lot of stress on my family and me. When Richard DNF'd, I realized anyone can. Sometimes you win; sometimes the race wins. I learned a lot out there. The body has amazing potential if we will just tap into it. And it can quickly recover from most anything. There were definitely times I thought "How stupid of me to be out here at my age!", then I'd just run some more. I must have looked pretty stupid, too. And I stunk. And I was so sweaty. But I did it, and today, I'm going to put that 70.3 magnet on my car and be proud.

  • Comments: I like this race even after a second time. Bike course is nice and scenic. Swim is always good and run is nice if it were so hilly...Low key race with a small crowd. Suits me better than 2500 people. Resort is nice if you want to bring the family to hang out.

  • Comments: This is a good race with plenty of support, organization, and a nice bike course. Nothing special, but the price is right and it's only 35 miles from home. I probably enjoyed this HIM more than any other one I've done. Just a really nice day and good effort. I've seen the number of racers slowly decline in the last 4 years (I volunteered in '05). Not sure why, but maybe the local folks are getting "bored" with it and it's not a "destination race" for the out-of-towners. I may or may not be back next year; not really sure if I need a 4th coffee cup.

  • Comments: It was a well run race and the RD did a good job handling the split venue situation. That is definitely better than cancelling the race. Plenty of food and drink and a good way to end the season on a positive note.

  • Comments: The race itsself was fantastic. The course was great, the aid stations were AWESOME and the volunteers were great. The only problem was the race organizers did not always give us the right information. They kind of expected that everyone has already done that event in the past, which I had not. But this was my first HIM and it was a great course for me.

  • Comments: This was my first HIM, and I am pleased with the outcome. I really enjoyed the race. The volunteer's rocked and they were everywhere to be seen. I will definately do the race again next year and look at dropping my time considerably. The bike course was really nice, the run course is the only reason I did not give the rating a 5 as it was just a boring and unforgiving route. Well organized race.

  • Comments: This was the fourth year of Ironstar, and the race organizers have it down pat. Great venue, perfect weather today, events started all of three minutes late. Plenty of volunteers, every intersection on the bike course was well-manned and well-managed. USAT officials were out in force, even had one give me a thumbs up when I fell back after being overtaken. Bottle exchanges were well-staffed (Yeah, Boy Scouts!) and efficient, as were the water stations on the run. All of them had water, Gatorade Endurance, Hammer Gels, Endurolytes, and enthusiatic volunteers. Thanks to all of you! For a non-qualifier, independent race, I thought this was a great event. Can't see how a branded 70.3 could be run any better.
