  • Comments: I did the Cal 70.3 so I could get a slot for an Ironman this year. I got my slot for Ironman St. George which is in 36 days; wooo-hoo!! I went into Cal 70.3 with no taper and wanted to race well. I had the best 1/2 IM swim I have ever had, and I had a solid bike. I started to fade on the run, and could not keep up a decent speed on the run. Time to recover and will now put the finishing touches on my IMSG training. I am pleased with the day, we had great weather, and I thank GOD I can participate in these events. I am especially happy for my friend Ron who took 2nd in his AG and had the race of his life today! He missed his Kona slot by just over a minute...now it shows he belongs and he will eventually get that slot...

  • Comments: Overall - Did I mention that my quads were killing me? ;-) I have a new description for triathlon it's not "swim, bike run", it's "easy, fun, death." For me, the swim is easy, the bike is fun and I really, really need to work on my run (and transitions.) Training - I used the HIM training plan from BT. I like the plan, it worked well for me. Travel - Mt. Redoubt caused a bit of a stir. I was supposed to fly on the red-eye flight on Wednesday morning. Redoubt burped Tuesday afternoon canceling all night flights. I called a couple times Wednesday morning and AK Air was able to reschedule me for Wednesday. Yea Alaska Air! Bike - I usually rent a bicycle when I do triathlons outside. I couldn't find a bike shop on-line and decided to take my bike because it is a longer ride. (For future reference, Nytro Tri Shop (Encinitas, CA) does rent tri/TT bikes. Look at http://www.nytro.com/) Many thanks to Bill at Chain Reaction for the aero bars, fitting my bike to me and the cycling/tri tips.

  • Comments: Overall, I was very proud of my performance given this being just the second time I have done this distance triathlon. My first goal for this race was to finish it. Which I did! Without any major injuries, too! My second goal was to get a better time than my last half-ironman distance triathlon. Which I did by 13 minutes! WooHoo! Well, thank you for taking the time to read my first race report. I would definitely recommend this race to fellow triathletes. Hope to see you guys at the Vineman Ironman in July!

  • Comments: All glory to God! I gave it my best and committed the rest. I could not have gone any faster on this day. I gave it my all. I finished in the top 10% in all categories in my AG and in the top 15% overall. A big thank you to my Coach and Mentor Lar Dog and to my other mentor Quinton Berry.

  • Comments: For my first half Ironman, I was satisfied with my result. I was hoping for a sub 6 but I'll take it and from what I learned, I have a better idea of what to expect for IMAZ.

  • Comments: I love this race. It is fairly close to home but far enough to seem like a long weekend vacation. I was able to remain relatively stress free and enjoy the whole weekend. The weather was basically as good as you can ask for. It is an early season race so it is hard to peak for but it is a great way to start the season off.

  • Comments: Best race I have done so far. I tried not to get too down on myself and just enjoy it. So what I had to walk a bit...I will be in this sport for awhile. Might as well enjoy it. Overall this was a fantastic race. It was a sufferfest on the run but I thoroughly enjoyed it, I knew I would finish and I was already calculating how to get better before next time. Figuring out in my head what I need to do to get ready for IM in November. It will be a long road ahead, I just hope I can stay healthy and become an IRONMAN! This is a fantastic sport and I am glad I started doing it...

  • Comments: Good race overall. Happy with climbing ability this time and need to continue training in the hills. Great weather, probably a little warmer than advertised, or just a stronger sun. Would do it again in a heart beat.

  • Comments: First, course organization and volunteers were great! Definately a race worth doing again and no complaints of the course or facilities. Having now completed a HIM I have a much better idea of what to expect for both distance, endurance, and nutrition. Other than my knee issue everything worked out as planned. Will know how to pace next race faster and start working on improved times. Overall I can't complain about a MOP finish at a big event for my first HIM.

  • Comments: This was my first half and my one year anniversary of learning how to swim. I had such a good time with this race. I managed to meet all of my race goals and am looking forward to another one. The course was entertaining and volunteers and fellow racers were very friendly.

  • Comments: Good course, I wish I could have enjoyed the run more, the cool ocean air on the run was soo refreshing and the crowd and Marines were awesome! The hills on the bike are not that bad, but the sand sucks!

  • Comments: I had a great time at Oceanside, I can see why people come back every year. It's a challenging bike course, but totally doable, just challenging enough to make it not boring, but also plenty of relatively flat areas so you can rock the aerobars. Swim was good, again, I like the in water start, easy out and back course so it's hard to get too lost or off track. Run had lots of aid stations and it is a beautiful run if you're not to out of it like was to really appreciate it (although the little bit of running on the sand was not cool). I think overall I had a respectable finish to my first half ironman.

  • Comments: I bested my time from last year by over 7 minutes...I had an excellent race, and feel I raced to my potential. I dedicated this race to my mom Janet Davidson, who I found out died the day before this race. My motivation was high, as I competed with my dearest mothers spirit and my loving thoughts of this wonderful lady.

  • Comments: Ironman branded races are definitely a notch above your average triathlon. For the most part it was everything I expected. A little disappointed that they had next to no finisher merchandise at the finish line Ironman store. They really cheaped out on the goodie bags for this race as well - not even a gel in the bag. Issues with the start cannon and no posted results in the athlete post-race area. I'm hoping it was just because it was one of the first races of the year. On a side note, I found out I missed a Clearwater slot by about two and a half minutes (via rolldown of course)!! My goal for this race was 5 hours and I went 5:10:01...just wish I had hurried a little more in T1, hammered a little harder on the swim and given a little extra on the run before my feet disintegrated! No worries though, I'm certainly not gonna beat myself up over a 5:10:01 on my first attempt at 70.3 racing (and only 8 months of doing triathlons of any kind). I really do enjoy this distance race
