  • Comments: This was the first year Sally Edwards split from Danskin. It was Danskin SheRox this year. Karen Smyers was actually at the race...at the swim start high fiving athletes as they entered the water and then at the finish line. Pros: Very organized, lots of volunteers, nice medals and awards, "local" beach race where we can stay with my sister Cons: getting out of the park is always a pain, the way they organize the transition area is weird, they got rid of the porch grass lining the long run from the swim to the TA, lack of any substantial food, distances of the swim and bike were short Despite my long list of cons, I always enjoy this race. I am not sure it fits in our race schedule next year.

  • Comments: This was my third triathlon ever, although the first one I signed up for. I applaud the fact that this race allows for all different ability levels and the fact that it is all women. However, it would also be nice, as a fellow participant in this race mentioned, that you could submit race times, so as to somewhat separate the more competitive racers from those folks just out for good fun. Only because you find you lose some time maneuvering around people who have trouble in the swim, or ride 2x2 on the bike path, etc. That said, I really liked that this was all women and I will do it again next year because I did have fun!

  • Comments: Comparing this race to the one in 2006, it definitely changed and not for the better. I saw someone ask about the camaraderie and I didn't think it was as warm & friendly as it has been in the past. They got rid of the swim angels altogether! They had lifeguards, on surf boards, and the lifeguards had noodles but there was no one in the water swimming with the participants. While I understand this from a liability standpoint, and that this is a USAT-sanctioned event, it really made it seem more competitive and less like everyone was helping each other out. I talked a friend of mine into doing this by telling her about the swim angels and when they didn't have them at all, I got worried for my friend. She did fine (hung onto a surfboard once or twice) but I won't recommend it to my non-swimming friends in the future. I think the Long Branch triathlons, with their super-short swim course (1/4 mile) are more beginner-friendly than this race was....and I missed Sally Edwards!!!

  • Comments: I think this is the last time I will be doing this race. As much as I love spending time with Karen, Kristin and Brad, it is a bit far and I missed Luke's football game today. Too late in the season for me.

  • Comments: Disappointed they shaved so much off their official distances.
