  • Comments: I liked this race. I think they need to change the first leg of the swim so people have a chance to spread out before the first turn, but overall I enjoyed the experience. Not really happy with my overall placing, but it being my first race it is what it is.

  • Comments: First Tri, so it is impossible to compare. Overall, I thought it was very well organized considering the number of participants. The volunteers did an amazing job! I thought it was a lot of fun for a first race. It was nice to look at the results and identify areas where I know I can easily cut off time.

  • Comments: This race sucked from the first step to the last for me. 13 minutes slower than last year. The lack of training this spring was painfully obvious. Such a disappointment. The highlight, as always, was chatting with other BTers--Emily, Dan, Bryan, Kelly, Ben. Thanks, Emily, for the encouragement on the run. I definitely needed it today. This race is always well organized but may be getting too big for it's own good. That course is awfully crowded in parts.

  • Comments: Generally a great race. Big, at 1600 participants but very well organized. Only complaint is the crowding on the bike course and the people who don't know the rules of the road. I almost got clipped by some lady who I'm pretty sure was riding with her kid, which was sweet, but I'd prefer to not crash. And, while its frustrating to have so many inexperienced riders on the course, those experience people should know way better than to pass on the right. I mean, seriously people. Pull your heads our of your butts and ride safely. Will also echo Emily's sentiments that there needs to be some more security around transition if for no other reason than to keep big crowds out of the way of people still racing.

  • Comments: Racing 10 lbs lighter is making a nice difference in my bike and especially my run pace. Next race is the long course at Heart of the Lakes, which will be at the longer end of my ability level but I'm looking forward to it. This is a well-organized race and it has a high energy level. Definately a premier event. I hate to critique any race because I truly appreciate people putting them on -- I know how much work it involves. But my only feedback is that perhaps they need to cap the participation at a slightly lower number. During the entire swim and much of the bike, I just couldn't get any space... this is a crowded race. But it is well organized, and I'd much rather race in a crowd than not race at all!

  • Comments: VERY good race. The ONLY problem (also a highlight) is the number of newbies. I can live with them, but they need rules. They should be told about appropriate passing etiquette. Also, transition is uncontrolled and people pack up and leave while others are racing (with friends and family in tow). I am going to contact the race director to explain my feeling about this. Closing transition is hard, but he could at least give a few safety tips at the mandatory pre-race meeting. Other than that, though, it was great sprint and I'm sure I'll be back. Oh, and Torrenzo Bozzone is super cute!

  • Comments: Great race! I like the "bigger" atmosphere...but there's plusses and minus to each type I guess...I'm very new to the sport, loving it, and learning a lot...thanks to everybody who I've met who've been more than gracious with all kinds of tips and tricks...I'll pay it forward when I have the chance! Thank you!

  • Comments: This was a PR for me by exactly one minute. Leave it to me to be somewhat disappointed with a PR, though. (I'm such a dork.) I was all excited about my time until I got home and looked at my report from last year. I ran 9:12 miles last year, but 9:35s today. Rats. I still got the PR because my bike was faster, but I was bummed about the run pace. I said in my blog on Saturday that I thought my 9:35 mile might have been the fastest I had ever run a mile, but apparently I was totally forgetting about this race last year and the 9:12s. I'm still happy with the PR, of course, I just wish I could have repeated the faster run afte this year's faster bike. Oh well. Next year! :) Other quick notes: -The lady they introduced in the pre-race meeting that was hit by a car on her bike two weeks ago--She's also from Hastings and I swim with her all the time at the middle school. I had no idea she had been hit though! I went to talk with her a bit and luckily she's doing very well. -I was running

  • Comments: As this was my first race, I have nothing to compare it too. But even lt night, post-race, when I couldn't walk on my ankle and was so tired, I was looking forward to the next one and planning my upcoming training. I can see how this can become an obsession.

  • Comments: I'm a little surprised that this was such a popular race. Touted as the 2nd largest tri in Minnesota. Sponsored by Gatorade. Only the Lifetime Fitness tri is more popular. 1200 registered for either the Sprint or the Olympic. My first tri this year was in Albert Lea, which was better for the fist timer as they were very helful with pre-race pointers and much more sociable. I experienced a not so nice gentleman at the Buffalo tri, believe he was the go-to guy for volunteers, who thought it wise to make a newbie feel like a newbie. A real ass.

  • Comments: This was my first triathlon, my goal was to complete the course and gain some experience, from that perspective I was very happy. The race was well organised and the volunteers were terrific. I didn't drown, fall, or crash my bike, so even though I was 10th from the bottom I consider that a great accomplishment. Can't wait to sign up next year!

  • Comments: I am very happy with this race! I improved my time from last year by over 4 minutes, and it was a PR for this course by 3 minutes. I was also right at the top third for my age group, which is better than my normal right smack in the middle. And of course, the pleasant surprise of the good run was an added bonus. This race is super well organized, and it's a lot of fun. The give aways are nice (although we didn't win any), as is the swag bag. I'm not super crazy about the color of the tshirt this year (yellow), but that's a very minor issue. Highly recommend this race! Update, for those interested: Yes, my husband, using the No Training plan, did beat me, as I expected (by 3 minutes). %*($%@&$# He clearly does not understand that the way to ensure a pleasant ride home does NOT involve him beating me AGAIN; especially when he didn't even train. Grumble.

  • Comments: This was a very well organized event. There were many volunteers and it really had a small town feel. I was hoping that I could finish in under 1 hour 30 minutes, and I met my personal goal. Can't wait to do it next year (hopefully with a wetsuit). Sorry I didn't get to introduce myself to any BT'ers. See you at the Minneman.

  • Comments: For a race as large as it is (2nd largest in the MN) it had that small race feel. I really enjoyed it and will certianly have it on the list for next year!
